Detroit City

It's really sad to lose such a good horse. I think his owners used to own Rooster Booster, another good horse who collapsed and died on the trainer's gallops. Very unlucky.

This is from yesterday's RP;

Warner explained what went wrong.

"It was his heart. We had a post-mortem done and it was a valve on the right-hand side of his heart that failed," he said.

"He actually died in the air. He didn't fall, he jumped the hurdle.

"Richard (Johnson) rang me and said he jumped the hurdle fine and all of a sudden his backend went and down he went.

"He said that he rolled over and when he got back to him to take off the blinkers he was dead. The vet confirmed that the horse was dead before he got there.

Poor horse, but he would at least have no idea. He was a huge favourite of mine, I defended his corner all last year when he was being dismissed as a Champion Hurdle horse. Sadly it was not to be, he didn't show his running in it at all. He was still a great horse to have achieved what he did.

RIP, and sympathy to all connected with him.
