Such a horrible thing to have to go through. I read a passage in a book once about a lady who'd lost her husband, she said 'it's only them who have had that can loose'. Your loss is so bad because of the depth of love you had for him, but your life will always be the better for having known him. It was just good that you had each other. I can't think of a better way to say goodbye than by soothing him in his moment of need. Please accept the hugs from everyone on here, they are all heartfelt.

I am so sorry for you. We lost one to colic in November, it was terrible as she3 was only 7 1/2 and had never been sick or sorry. I remember how we felt that terrible day, in fact for the rest of the week we were all in a trance and just couldn't stop crying, but gradualy the pain began to ease and now 3 months on, I still get a lump in my throat when I think about her and how unfair life is, and still shed a tear, but at least now we can think about her with pride, and love and laugh at her silly ways. I didnt think we would ever get to that stage.

Both me and my daughter found that talking about it as much as possible helped let the pain out - but that's not for everyone.

I was surprised at how kind others were, you expect other horse folk to understand. But even non horsey people seem to understand what a huge huge loss a horse is.

Lots of hugs to you xxxx
