Devastated.

Oh no, how awful

what you have to do is follow the vets advice, stay calm & look after your boy to try and get him back on track :)

Are you able to tell us what's wrong? Maybe other people who have dealt with a similar issue can offer you specific advice

Sorry to hear this; sending you a hug. Are you able to say whats wrong people might be able to help..or have been through similar

You will do what is needed to keep him comfortable and hopefully, return him to good health.

It is heart breaking, my lad has been off since August 2011. What have vets advised.

What's the dx? Is it a "turn away and hope he comes right" issue, or something requiring invasive treatment?

She said to keep him in his pen for the time being, as jumping and dashing about is doing him no favours.
She doesn't know exactly what is wrong. Will give a more detailed post when I get home, just off out to see him again.

Sorry to read this, but you must try and stay positive about this I know that is easier said than done, but some of us have had all sorts of horrid situations with our horses and you think that they are never going to come through, so stay strong as you can for Neds sake. Have a big Hug from me and pass this on to darling Ned. Thinking of you both at this very hard time, take care x x

Sorry to read this. I obviously don't know the full story but I have had a horse "written off" by the vets and long term rest did bring him right again.

Sorry to hear that. Try not to panic thou. Frolic who 10 weeks ago could barely walk has just been given the ok to start walk work. He has been on small paddock rest for last 4 weeks and box rest before that. Vet initially thought I was looking at 9 months plus. Chester who has been turned out for a year is now ready to come back into work. Time and field rest can fix them :) fingers crossed.

I knew someone with a horse that had serious issues with a hoof, had to be on boxrest and restricted turnout for months, but now they are back in the ribbons! It is amazing what they can recover from <hugs>

Well until you get an actual diagnosis try not to get too despondent. Time can be a great healer. But as this has been going on for quite some time you absolutely need to know what your dealing with. You'll then know how to proceed and what your options are.

sorry to hear this :( i remember when the vet told fox would be out of work aswell after he fractured his radius 2 years ago. its really difficult to hear but the time did go by quicker than i thought it would and he was back doing walking work before i knew. stay positive pet, hugs xx

You can't panic until you have a diagnosis (easier said than done I know). I would imagine that the vet has told you to keep him in the pen because she doesn't know what is wrong and therefore doesn't want to risk whatever it is getting worse. Sounds more like she's erring on the side of caution than writing him off. And as you haven't had a diagnosis then presumably you'll be going through a lameness workup, after which you will have a diagnosis. But until then it's logical she is going to tell you to limit his movement etc, minimise any further damage he can do.

Sorry to hear that Nah, must be very depressing. But, as the others have said, it is too soon to get really despondent and it may end up being a problem which can be fixed quite quickly.

Chin up and wait for some proper news. Whatever the outcome, you will be able to deal with it because you have his best interests at heart and that is as it should be. However, very best of luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed that all comes right soon.
Remember, if your vet can't diagnose, you can always try someone else.

Deepest hugs to you but be positive! Once you have a diagnosis the way will seem clearer. And give him time - turn him away for as long as it takes. Thinking of you both. x x

Nah presuming this is the lameness that Ned has had for a while (and possibly aggrevated recently) has ever had any diagnostics (nerve blocks/xrays etc) on it. I'm sorry but if not in this day and age it really isn't acceptable for a vet to say they cannot diagnose and turn away. Perhaps time for a second opinion if not?
