Today it was confirmed my horse has fractured his leg (just above the left fore fetlock joint).
He was kicked by another horse a week ago - luckily I saw it happen and brought him in otherwise the wound would have been infected by flies and fracture made worse if he'd been charging around (he hasn't been lame at all on it!)
So... 6 weeks box rest followed by weeks on walking in hand before I'll be able to ride again.
I know these things happen but I'm gutted at the timing. I've been looking forward to this month since I bought him last september. I've only been riding weekends up until recently but finished college 3 weeks ago so could finally start schooling him and having fun. But no, now spending my summer mucking out and sitting in the tack room! :(
Will upload photos shortly

Sorry to hear about your boy. It's not what you want but you'll be surprised how quickly the time goes. I'm sure someone would welcome some help exercising their horse while your boy is out of action.

The timing of something like this would never be good. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Aww at least he will hopefully come right though, and box rest can I believe do wonders for building a trusting relationship between human and horse :)

I would ask around, maybe put an ad on preloved, and see if you can get a neddy to ride for the summer

Given a lot of time, he should come right. The walking can become a little tedious, but the very gradual build up will really help strengthen the bone as it heals, though bone does take around 5 months to properly heal. You're lucky he's still with you, I wish you all the best.
