A few days ago I posted a short video of William working through a low but quite demanding exercise, I've included more, including how I changed the double into an oxer at the end, in this week's update video on the site: http://www.madsen-equestrian.com/

I filmed the bit at the yard yesterday, before riding, so my getting properly bucked off by William is not mentioned! Foolishly I had been focusing on getting more "bounce" in the canter, then asked for a change on the diagonal and it really was a question of going, going, gone: I sat the first two but flew on the 3rd . Fear not though, it'll get mentioned next week ;).

It hasn't gone above 0 for a week, it's been between -5 and -10 most days, but we've had a couple colder. Looked like more snow was going to come down today but was only a dusting so far :). It can go away now though, want to go jumping and xc schooling and cantering! Clearly William does too!

Great exercise thanks for that..

Interesting about the "weaving" ... I don't think it is.. my mare kind of does this when she is asking for attention / food ;)

I use this exercise with four crosspoles - one on each "quarter" - and agree it is super hard work for them (and us;)).

Loving your co-star  and is it wrong that I find Missy's peek-a-boo very cute? Though completely feel for her - everything crossed for her.

She does a much more extreme version of it if all the others are taken out the yard for instance, because I was standing there with the camera she kept looking at me going "what?", and admittedly here it just looks like fairly tame head popping in and out. She is funny though, whenever she is thinking she licks her lips, and just like her mother she has a switch from ultra calm to insane (pinging and squeaking round the stable) and back with no warning. Couple more weeks til we x-ray again and know more.

Btw if anyone has any suggestions for things they'd like to see in the videos feel free, it might not be feasible but suggestions never hurt!

how cold is it with you?

Like the schooling exercise - might steal it for my arena :D

You and your arena! ;)

I actually like that better than the points on a circle variation because it makes you hold the rhythm a bit more and turn the corners rather than just getting into a groove oh the circle. Sort of a combination of the exercise on a circle and a similar one on a square.

Love William's face. :)

Its ok, the rest of us are just waiting for the big 'new arena party' ;)

t_e: exercise looks good! Love William, even if he was a little naughty ;) Hope your not too sore!

I haven't been turning him out, partly because his turnout partner Missy can't go out, and partly because a few weeks ago he must have wrenched himself in the field going up and down the fence line (because his girlfriend isn't there ). But after yesterday I decided that was that and chucked him out today, frozen lumpy ground not withstanding!
