Is Devils Claw banned under BE/FEI rules? I always thought it was as it's an anti-inflammatory & herbal 'bute' but my feed shop says otherwise. Can anyone confirm whether it is or isn't?

Was just double checking the BE rule book - in the banned info it says 'two or more anti-inflammatory drugs (steroidal and/or non-steroidal) or other combinations of anti-inflammatory substances with similar or distinct pharmacological actions'

Also says 'Persons administering a herbal or so-called natural product to a horse or pony for health reasons or to affect its performance, having been informed that the plant origin of its ingredients do not violate the FEI regulations, may have been misinformed.'....what conclusion are you meant to draw from that?! That the FEI inform you that something is fine and then it turns out that they're wrong and you get done!

Also says this is banned 'oxygen carriers; and other substances with a similar chemical structure or similar biological effect(s).' - so what about Oxyshot?

I've got three horses with bad arthritis in their hocks and knees (all ex-racers & not BE) on D&H Devils Claw root and it's worked miracles.

It had really helped my girl cope with harder ground... brilliant stuff! x

So have we concluded that it's not banned and safe to use under BE/FEI rules? I'm just thinking about putting a horse on it to event whilst the ground is so hard - might just give him a little bit of relief.

Its is currently within rules of all affiliations that devils claw is legal, this may not last forever though, so keep your eyes open for advice in the media
