My boy is already on suppleaze gold joint supplement and a bit of brute daily to help his stiffness due to arthritis and he is slightly unsound in front (navicular changes) it's been 3 months so I doubt he will come sound again as he is nearly 20

I don't want to keep him on bute permanently so looking to try Devils Claw? Any recommendations on which brand etc? I see Aviform do it I think it's called Mobility DS? Does anyone use it.

Also thinking about trying pure MSM instead of glucosamine? Can I give him either of these if he is on Devils Claw

I would say so, many of the supplements that contain Devil's Claw also contain MSM, (Devils Relief certainly does and I think Gold Label Bute Free does too.
 
i use Devils claw
comes in a bottle labeled "no bute" i buy it in local tack shop!
amazing stuff i am never with out a bottle it says on the back it is suitable for long term usage

my Tb is currently on it (has been for 2 weeks now) as he was playing about in the field and slipped!

you can buy it in 5 liter bottles, i have a site i buy it off at best price (can pm it to you if needed)
 
Might also be worth trying some turmeric? I tried it with my daughters elderly and mildly arthritic pony and he suddenly took to jumping the strip-grazing fence! I didn't bother with the oil and black pepper stuff as the evidence seems to be there for people but doubtful for horses.

Have tried turmeric but was advised against feeding it as he is on prascend

I was taking Glucosomine myself for bad joints and it made them worse somehow! I know take Devils claw which I buy from Holland and barratt and it works really well, I was on a waiting list to have an operation on my ankle, but its so much better now. not sure if this really helps, but good luck : )
 
I have been using avoform for a couple of months now and my boy is doing really well.

He was on cortaflex before that, was recommended the avoform so gave it a try and he does look and feel better for it so will carry on using it.
 
As well as the suppleze gold ive just giving my boy nature bute which is Boswellia serrata (other wise known as frankinsence (sp?) and he's bouncing around!
 
NAF in the pink senior has Msm added - I used it all last year for my then 24 yo and her joints were great. I swapped back to Topspec senior over the last few months (just to see) and she's not moving as well so have just invested in a big 3.6kg tub of the Naf...
