I have my mare on Devils Relief and glucosamine as she has slight arthritis in her hocks. The DR seems to be helping but its kind of expensive for a permanent feed supplement for her at £18 a bottle which only lasts a month. I've seen that you can get devils claw gel for horses, has anyone used it and does it help? I was thinking that then i'd only have to use it when she's sore (her hock gets hot and she goes ever so slightly lame). Would this work? Any opinions on alternatives would be helpful too. Thanks :)

I tried Devils claw on my old horse and my current TB with arthritis. It did absolutely nothing for either of them (although I take it for my bad back and it's currently working better than any of the prescription painkillers!)

I now use glucosamine and MSM (combined from natural horse supplies) and boswellia serrata. This combination appears to work much better for mine, although the boswellia isn't cheap either.

Devil claw works well for my mare and the difference is very clear to see but I won't use devils relief as it's something like 70% water. I use the pure herb form for d &h and that lasts a long time.

devils claw, despite being homeopathic, is very toxic for the liver, if using this regularly please do a liver detox every 3 to 5 months and watch out for photosensitivity on any white/pink skin.

I use the root not the liquid and 1kg last me over 2 months at17.00 just one scoop a day, works with mine but I will detox, how does one do that please

restore works well as a detox as does a week off, and you can support the liver function with milk thistle. bloods will tell you if liver is struggling. devils claw is more toxic to the liver than bute or danelon which has been scientifically tested and researched.

The only benefit my horse loved devils claw good doer and then I realised it was full of sugar! I didnt see any difference at all. Except a low bank balance. I bought the liquid stuff.

I use D@H devils root claw granules on our Mare. Seems to be working and have now reduced it to one scoop a day. I do give her liver a rest after each tub has finished. A tub usually lasts up to 3 months so worth a try.

we're looking at the boswellia (think the brand is NatureBute) for Tom instead of Devils Claw - the vet confirmed to us that he'd seen liver/digestive issues in horses fed DC for long periods of time, and reckoned that Boswellia would be better.
