I could do with a little help sorting out a feeding plan before the winter, and wondered if there is anyone on here who could help me? I have a 15yo TB, who at the moment needs to put some more condition on. He is a windsucker, so as long as he has always got something to nibble on then he's fairly happy, but he drops weight very fast when there's not enough ad-lib food because he just windsucks instead!
He'll be living out this winter so I will do my best to negotiate good grazing/ad lib food or hay with YO, who will hopefully understanding.
At the moment he has (morning and evening):
1 scoop Dengie Alfa Oil
3/4 scoop Heygates conditioning mix
NAF profeet (pm only)
Cortaflex (about to start him on it)
Usually I also feed speedi-beet too, probably about a scoops worth of it (once soaked).
I just really need to give him a high calorie feed that won't break the bank, but I get a little confused!
Is it better to feed high ratio of cereals, as they are more energy dense?
Is speedi-beet very energy dense, if not, are there any alternatives I could feed (bran/sugar beet/barley/linseed)?
Winter feeding overwhelms me slightly as I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing! Thanks
