Just wondering if anyone has a Devoucoux saddle and iof so how it fits their horse? I'm thinking of buying one secondhand for my TB but he's high withered and I wondered if it would fit him OK? How do the width fitting come up? Are they generous? Any model recommendations welcome!

There are lots of better saddles out there than Devoucoux. Most pros have them because they are amazing to ride in and keep you in the correct position but if you are looking for one horse and not multiple horses then other brands will fit your horse better and be a lot better for its back.

I am led to believe that its because of the trees and panels there is very limited choice and I know a lot of horses that have had sore backs from them.

You would be better off looking for a saddle that offers wider panels which then disperses the weight more evenly.

I have one for my TB and love it, and my horse's osteopath has said that his back is better since i have used it than with previous saddles. I would say that his was made to measure for him though, and a second hand one the fit won't be as good.

I am having one made at the minute for my 3/4 TB mare. I think the 'sore back' thing has arisen from people using second-hand Devoucoux saddles which haven't been made for their horses. Also close-contact saddles don't suit every horse/rider. Just my opinion!

If you're going to spend that much money, get a butet, much better saddles for the money and nicer on the horses backs.

They were useless on my TB's these saddles, absolutely useless, despite being made to measure. OK at first but slowly the horses's backs became incredibly sore and painfull. Never again, the physio's here hate them. The GB eventing team are slowly being weaned off their devoucoux saddles... Mary King and Zara now use Ideal saddles, I think that Kitty Boggis has changed from Devo to Wow saddles. I think that the new Ideal saddles and WOW saddles are the way forwards. Have not tried Ideal but their whole technology sounds very impressive and they have scored very well in pressure testing.

I think that Butet and Devoucoux are both made by the same company and have similar designs? Ive seen them on Andrew Nich's horses and am not convinced by them at all, but am prepared to be proved wrong.

The guy who worke on Devoucouxs took the plans and then developed the Butet from it. The American forum link is fascinating. Best quote is that the Devoucoux is made for the rider and not for the horse.

I ride in a Devoucoux Manilla dressage saddle and adore it. It suits quite a wide vairety of horses we have at home- from a luso stallion to a fine tb. It's the nicest saddle I have ever ridden in, puts you in a superb position.

Butet arent made by the same company. They are designed alot more for the modern horses shape, whereas Devoucoux have had the same tree shape for years. A very good saddler a friend spoke to said Butet are far superior in their approach to making them fit horses over devoucoux!! Some horses like the Devoucouxs, as obviousy they fit some horses. Agree BB's MrsT's is divine, but still would always go with a Butet over a devoucoux. A friend who was previously a massive Devoucoux fan had 3 made, and has had probs wityh the fitting of all 3. She now agrees they are very much rider saddles, not Horse saddles!!

It's not the saddle it's the fitter (says very quietly). And no they don't fit every horse out there but then neither does a butet, it is all to do with the shape of the tree and the shape of the horses spine. You will know when you have a good fitter out because they would rather you didn't buy one of their saddles because they don't have the correct shape tree for your horse than try to flog you a saddle which will never fit.

Why not look into Fusion Saddles? I know the woman who ownes & runs the company she spent thousands of £'s researching with riders as to what was needed/wanted and they are truely lovely saddle. Everytime i go down there (she is only 5min from my yard) i dream on the day i have the money for one but currently i dont but one day.

Hi, I know you posted this some time ago but wanted to let you know Zara does ride in Devoucoux and has done so for several years. As does Oli townsend, Chris King, Ellen whiticker etc etc....As far as i know Mary King has never used Devoucoux and is paid to ride in Barnsby! Have you ever ridden in one? Always been thrilled with mine and work brilliantly for my 2 T/B s. My Devoucoux rep told me that even Denman is using one for riding out. But I appreciate for the rider the saddle choice is down to personal perferance.

mary king has always been sponsered by barnsby and zara is still riding in devoucoux? Kitty Boggis used to ride in Butet! Get your facts straight!!!
