Hi there

Just wanted to know what everyone thinks of there saddles, and how much people have paid for them and how easy they found them, or are you still searching?

I don't have a Devoucoux but I do have two Butet saddles and paid £1995 for my x-country saddle. I believe the Devoucoux are over the £2k mark and have been for some time. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I really really like mine, tried lots before it but nothing has come close to the devoucoux on him.

I agree they are absolutely rolls royce to ride in, God I would just die to keep them to ride as they make me feel at least like a half decent rider! But they just seem to make their backs sore. If no soreness then their jump and paces just feel compromised.
Yet so many professionals use them so I must be talking bollocks, as usual!

Yes they are lovely saddles if you have a horse that has the right shape back for the tree, if it doesn't then neither love or money won't get one anywhere close to fitting properly. If they upped the rang of the tree shapes then it would expand their possible clientelle (sp)

I rode in my trainers Devoucoux and loved it! - After that I looked to buy a 2nd hand one but ended up with a close contact Single flap Amerigo which to me is just as good as the Devoucoux! - I love it! - It puts me in a correct position and I like the closeness to the horse.

I keep hearing again and again how bril they are for riders but absolutely appalling for horses backs! My saddle fitter (does not sell just fits) wont touch them.

With any off the peg saddle you've got to have a horse with a shape that fits their back

Trouble is that saddles evolve based round the market they were aimed for. So in theory with a Selle Francais you might have a good chance of the devoucoux fitting, but an english TB probably won't

I cannot understand people paying £'000s for a saddle that doesn't fit their horse.

OK so here's what I dont understand. My horse is no 'odd' shape just a typical TB shape. Probably much the same shape as the 1000's of event horses that use those saddles at top level...
But I had those saddles made to measure for my horse ( english TB) and waited 3 months to have them made, they arrived and within 2 weeks he was crippled and could hardly move in them.

Made to measure in the case of these saddles means only that they adjust the flocking

They do not alter tree shape or do anything else. Literally just move the flocking in an attempt to stop bridgeing

Therefore if the tree doesn't suit your horse there was no chance of it ever fitting (sounds like that was your problem!)

On the bright side if you'd chosen an english make it would have fitted your TB well, but would never do for a warmblood!
