Got a call from the vets yesterday. The specialist says he has to have surgery on both his back legs. His cruciate ligament has ruptured in his right leg so they will do that first and his left leg is going to rupture so it also needs to be done. Apperently it is a big op and takes a while to recover from so he's going to have a rough few months. Hugs for my little man please. He's so sweet he doesn't deserve all this. He is a 15 month old Rottie.

It is indeed a big op...I would advise you to purchase a crate as he will need super strict crate rest....and strict weight control will also help in the long term....being a rotti he will not like that

Good luck and good outcome ((((vibes))))) and quick recovery for Dexter

Thanks for that CALA!! I am very strict with all my dogs diet so his weight shouldn't be too much of a problem. (Unfortunately don't have the same willpower with my own diet!!) We already have a crate but also have 2 other very active dogs so am NOT looking forward to this at all. However it will greatly improve his mobility (he has a congenital knee defect) so it has to be done.

I know exactly what you're headed for. My Boxer (RIP Billy) had his crutiates repaired. I am surprised they are doing the two together - it's going to be very hard for him.

My boy had his first one done and walked out of the vet's sound! By 10-12 weeks he was back to normal!

I really hope the ops go well - I would speak to the vet about maybe doing one and then the other in say 6 months time?

Definately get a crate though.

Good luck and huge hugs to Dexter

Thanks for the heads up boxers. He isn't having both done together. The worst one first and then the other one so it's going to be a long job. It is in his best interests though so got to be done!!
