We are sending him back to the breeder and demanding a refund immediately.....NOT. I couldn't even start to tell you what he has but basically his knees (rear) aren't made right and he already has onset of arthritis. It's congenital and nothing can be done.He also has ruptured his cruciate ligament and we are waiting for a specialist to let us know what the next move is with that one!! Poor little man had to be muzzled cos he didn't like the vet but I stayed with him til he was asleep and was there when he woke up. He's sleeping it off now looking rather disgruntled!!

Hugs to Dexter. Does he have luxating patella? There's a lot you can do to help arthritic conditions, starting by supplementing with Glucosamine and Omega 3 oils.

Here's a list of other nutraceuticals Here's a list that can help.

What age is he?

No Prose it's not that. It has a much much longer name. It's something to do with the stuff that goes between the joints. Basically there isn't enough of it. He is 15 months old and we noticed he struggled getting up sometimes and swivelled on his bum rather than get up and move around. We had his hips x-rayed to check for hip dysplacia and he was OK there. But I am concerned that as a male Rottie he will struggle more as he gets heavier and more mature. Our old Rottie had arthritis so that's not my biggest worry. Apparently if he has to have surgery for the cruciate ligament we are talking 2 to 3 thousand pounds!!!! Thank God for Pet Plan.

Hey good news about Stella by the way. I can imagine how relieved you are. Matty dog has cancer which so far is clear and I know how I feel every time she has a scan that shows clear.

Ah, rottie

Sadly they are prone to it, one of the first things we are learning about in anatomy is how to repare the cruciate ligament! (well..the basics anyway!)
Fingers crossed he gets better soon.

Tsh do you want to practice on Dex?!!! He turned into a devil dog when our vet approached him with his syringe! Luckily he is also my best friend and indulged me when I whimpered that he was just scared and didn't mean it really!!

LOL-we have a retriever who used to need muzzled but since the vets make an effort to be her friend is much much better, still not amused with the needle though!

Thank you. Yes, hugely relieved.

Very glad that your pet insurance will cover the leg condition. The insurance plans over here are terrible--hardly cover anything at all.
