Diabetes in dogs

I'm absolutely gutted about a chap at work. His dog was diagnosed with diabetes at the beginning of the summer. Vets thought they had it under control but over the weekend the poor dog has gone blind. He could see shadows over the weekend but yesterday couldn't see anything. The dog is only 8. I feel so sorry for this chap, the dog is his best friend

My neighbours dog was PTS at 6 with this. Did the dog have lots of sweets. Do you know what causes it

Not sure about sweets but the dog does have a heart murmur which the vet said could of brought on the diabetes, so so sad.

Thanks. My daughters King Chatles has heart murmur. I'll let her know. Sad when they die so young

we had a jrt that got diabetes and had to be injected twice a day. she coped very well with the blindness and most people didn't even realise she was blind. she pottered round quiet happily once she got her bearings. She coped for years with the blindness but eventually she lost bladder function completely and once that happened we had to let her go. husband was absolutely devestated.

Thank you. I think it has hit him hard as the dog has gone from being hyper when he comes home to being subdued, for obvious reasons. Terrible x
