I am planning on putting my 3 year old mare into foal and really like the look of Diarado. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. My mare is by unbelievable darco and her dam was by Metall (ferro).

watched his father win a lot of big comps. a big very powerful horse, looks a lot like our middle/heavyweight hunters, he consistantly breeds some good sorts, but then he gets good mares, diarado looks a lot lighter at the mo.

Very light stallion however he is special and foals I have seen so far have been lovely however I wouldn't use him at his stud fee unless really proven. As you have an Unbelievable Darco mare why not check with Brendons about Don VHP Z? Same sire as Diarado and unbelievable jumper.....won HOYS 6 yr olds last year.

Thank you for that advice, it is really helpful. My event horse is by Diarado's sire Diamant de Semilly hence my interest in this line. Don VHP Z looks very nice, my only concern with him is I don't want to breed a too bigger horse, would like around 16.2h and I think he is around 17h. I wouldn't mind one with a bit of bone though and thanks for those comments as didn't realise Diarado was so lightweight.

I don't mind paying a higher stud fee as I'm looking to breed one to keep and 1K or 2k becomes insignificant in comparison to a life time of feed and keep if you've bred the wrong horse to save money. But likewise I don't want to pay more when I didn't need to.

Any other stallion suggestions would be appreciated that I could research. Must have good jump and paces, compact build, bit of bone would be nice. I like warmbloods esp holstein and Oldenburg. My mare has lovely paces and jumping technique and I want to do her justice with my choice.

Thanks again to everyone for your help and advice

i like flipper d'elle, compact, excellent bone and confo, big winner who is all heart and only 15.3hh, he breeds more of a middle size, light to middle type, whereas diamants are usually quite big middle to heavy

I'm sure Diarado will thicken out as he matures, don't forget at the stallion grading where he was loose jumping he was only 2. We used Contendro, and in his earlier photographs he looks quite lightweight. When we saw him in the flesh aged 7 he'd definately thickened out considerably.
