I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to treat a mild case of diarrhea? He was on a course of penicillin mid Jan for a cough, which i thought might have been the cause but he still seems to be runny 8-( his poos are fairly normal but every now and then he is lifting his tail and just watery poo is coming out.... I've got the vet coming out next week for boosters but just wondered if anyone had any suggestion. He is on pretty good quality hay and has been in a fair bit due to the weather but everything else is the same... hes on a good worming program as well.... I'd just like to get it sorted as hes finding it quite distressing (and so am i cleaning it off his bum & tail flap in this weather is not much fun!!) Any advise would be appriciated

Brewers yeast would be a simple addition to his diet that will help get the gut balance back and should make all the difference, otherwise a probiotic will do the same but is far more money.

One of our ponies has always been loose at best and revolting at worst. And taking him anywhere resulted in projectile liquid (sorry for description but can't think of any other way to describe it ).
Someone recommended Happy Tummy - http://www.finefettlefeed.com/?page_id=23
and it's been brilliant. First time in years he has 'normal' droppings virtually all the time and even when we go out he's a little loose but nothing compared to what he was like previously.
Hope that helps. :)

My horse poops through the eye of a needle! Most people think that when you warn them about the back end of a horse think it's due to the likely hood of getting booted. With mine it's to avoid getting squirted!
Lam has tried most products but haylage and lack of grass means a plaited tail and a daily bum wash.
When he was antibiotics he was prescribed a prebiotic by the vet which I think helped. Presently trying yeast, though looking forward to feeding hay at new yard.:)

Honestly monikirk - try the happy tummy. Our section A was a nightmare. Wet grass, more grass, less grass, new horse on the yard, show, more work, less work - every single change and yuk!! We tried Baileys digest plus which helped but didn't sort it. Then the vet gave us a charcoal product which is usually only used for pigs. Ta da! It did the trick, but was prescription only so we only used it when we really needed it. Then Happy Tummy was released and I've been using it ever since. Poos actually look normal and at shows etc, they are only like cow pats. Projectile liquid poo was a frequent occurence before and trying to keep children and pony clean was a impossible. I feed it every day and just double the quantity the night before we go anywhere.
