I have recently changed my mares supplements from newmarket to GRAND MEADOWS HA + GRAND MEADOWS MEGA GRAND FLEX I did this gradually over a three week period but for the last week she has had constant diarrhoea - its not really bad - more like a thicker, very green, cow pat (sorry to all those just about to eat or who have eaten

). Could the supplements be causing this and if so should I try to continue with them meantime. She has 24 hour turn out and she is on a sparser pasture which has nice grazing but its not lush pasture just very short grass.

could be from the change. anything with magnesium in it can make the poos sloppy so other things can too also anything thats new can do this. Try too contact the supplement people and check with them it might mean you need to alter the dose

Knowing the sensitivity of a horse's gut, I would think that the supplements could indeed be a cause. But so could the change to the grazing, a viral infection, any change to her routine, a friend moved away, new horses arrived, hay making next door, tiger seen patrolling in the dead of night, etc etc etc. Not trying to be flippant but it can be so incredibly difficult trying to pin it down. If it was me, I'd stop anything new and go back to how it was and try to re-establish proper gut function and normal poos. Then introduce just one tiny change at a time and wait a couple of weeks each time. They do this when trying to pin down human allergies or reactions. Hope ned recovers soon coz it is a worrry x

My mare was exactly the same when she was on calming supplements. Just like a cow pat. A combination of new grazing and the calming supplement dreadful. Now I do not give her the supplement and she has returned to almost normal.

my mare was put onto bute and the vet suggested newmarket for her artheritis, within a week she had the most awful diarrhoea. it was so bad that she couldnt even control it and it was dripping from her backside like a tap, sorry!! my vet (at the time!)said it couldnt possibly be the bute or the supplements! however after she lost 10% of her body weight within a two week spell I took her of everything, hence her neurectomy (see previous posting) and it all stopped. I do have to be very careful with her diet i.e no hayledge or rich grass . hope this helps and good luck ,it's not an easy thing to deal with

ring vets and manufactor of the product and see what they say.if she has got the runs that will be taking all th godness out of her make sure she is drinking plenty aswell!
