Ok, so parts 1 and 2 were smuggled into SB, and Part 3 has only just been written, but now I'm riding more regularly (twice in 4 days ) I thought I'd be brave and post in NL with all the proper riders.

I started riding in my teens, shared a couple of horses, with a 5 year gap in the middle, but until 2 months ago hadn't ridden for 6 years. I've discovered that getting older has a very detrimental affect in muscle memory, and though I wasn't a great rider before, I am abysmal now, and am going back to basics.

I tend to waffle a lot, but below are my reports on each ride so far...

Sounds like you are having fun :D. The more frequent the lessons, the quicker it will all come back to you :D

Yes. Definitely starting to make progress, but it's now dawning on me how wrong I did everything before, so I now need to unlearn the bad habits and
relearn the good ones!

That makes two of us lol :). Instructor says my hands, seat, legs, feet are all fine - it's just using them to the greatest effect that is the thing I have to work on lol.

One of the reasons I love riding and horses, can never stop learning and neve stop getting better :D

He he, great blog and it sounds like you are coming on in leaps and bounds :)

I came back into riding 3 years ago now after a 6 year break... I remember my assessment ride being on a large cob that I could hardly keep in trot :-0 About two- three month later (after very regular lessons) I had him doing walk to canter transitions! It's amazing how it all comes back to you. And now I share a fizzy eventer who properly keeps me on my toes!

It's so good to know that it comes back quickly. I was horrified on my first ride in March as it felt absolutely awful - I looked at other people cantering around an arena on Wimbledon Common and wondered how I'd ever get to that point.
