At the medal ceremony on freeview , to add insult to injury , the translator call Oliver Townend Olivia ?

I was sorry for Oli ( about his ride ) , but thought he handled it well - not sure if he heard himself referred to as a female though

i was giggling when I heard that, granted was the French pronunciation but it was still Olivia I heard!

Yes, my cousin had a french friend called Oliver at uni, and for a while when he first started talking about him, my aunt thought he'd got a new girl friend
