Did anyone go to the CVFH fund ride yesterday?

Just looking at some of the pics online (boo, mines not there) looked like everyone was enjoying the day, heard a lot of 'what a lovely ride' :D

I was the loser going sideways on a very large ginger horse doing his best impression of a crab doing dressage!!

Thanks...what made it more funny is that as we sidled out of a wooded area towards the refreshments land rover, I realised I had quite an audience....so decided to laugh it off and throw in a humorous quip, but instead in my concentration at keeping the brakes on and preventing an imminent explosion, I just went

(very loud, very geeky voice)

IM DOING DWESSAGE!!!

Fail.

Oh I wasn't able to do it this year but had a great time last year... or was it the year before?

Glad you enjoyed, lovely pic! :)

Lol no I won't I'm quite pleased with it actually- one of the rare jumping photos of me where I actually saw the right stride and went with it, hurrah! (and its the best of the group i was with, the bay, coloured and dark bay either side of mine, I hope people agree :o )

Shame all brakes failed shortly after this point!

Err sorry to bump an ancient thread- I know it's not really appreciated on forums:o
But could anyone tell me how the ride was? Were there many optional jumps? Did the Cirencester Park Fun Ride last Sunday and enjoyed it big time- forgot how much I loved fun rides (I admit to side lining them in favour of competitions) so picked up a poster for a CVFH ride in July and just wondered if it was worth going? :)

Ancient?? This fun ride was only the weekend before last!

I think the July fun ride is the Apperly one. There won't be as many jumps as the CP fun ride but defo more jumps than some fun rides (like the Ledbury one I did a few weeks ago  ).

The Cotswold do a really good fun ride at Miserden, but that's, IIRC, end of March/early April.

The Farm Park is reasonably good for jumps too.

There is a new fun ride run by Cheltenham RC on the 11th of June at Teddington (off the B4077 Tewkesbury to Stow road) which promises to 'take you up and down magical hills, through woodland trails and over optional fences and ditches as you navigate the terrain of rural Gloucestershire....offers stunning scenery as you climb higher into the hills, vistas over the Evesham, Tewkesbury and Cheltenham landscapes will wow you as you reach the top of this ride!'

It goes on to say 'you and your horse need to be fit and able to ride up and down hills and you need to be competant navigating slopes, (ha, that should keep the numpties away! ;) :p :D ) but your reward is pure equine pleasure as you chat to friends and explore the route, surrounded by the peace and the wildlife (where's that vomit smilie when you need it?? ) There will also be optional natural obstacles, jumps!'

See y'all there!

I did a fun ride last summer with Monmouth PC that had about 10 jumps, all 3ft+ and placed on awkward corners in the forestry. It was not good and I don't think either me or my friend really enjoyed it!! Don't want to make the same mistake again:o CP was a rather good fun ride, I've put it in the same ranks as Dick Whittington, VWH and Misereden :D Forgot how good they are for confidence giving with XC so am hoping to schedule a few more in and get to the Badminton one!!!:)

I've done Miserden in previous years, it's a fab ride :D

I saw that one in the riding diary, not a stranger to hills living in Wales and I think my horse is relatively fit- he doesn't seem to be tired after doing 40km anyways!!

The Apperley fun ride will def have more than ten jumps and there won't be many over 3'. Def not in the same league as VWH, CP and Miserden though.

I agree, fun rides have always done my confidence the world of good, and I really need to get out and do some now as my confidence over jumps is nearly zero after a few years of doing very little, but that Ledbury fun ride was virtually no help at all!

Well as the others are such amazing rides, I'm sure not being quite as good as them still makes the other ride good. Think it will be the first XC style outing my friend's horse has done anyways

Definitely. I'm sure that what Comet's jumped on fun rides would never be included in a novice hunter trial yet alone the minimus (very nervy non-jumper here :D)!! Insane fear of being left behind and lost was also effective in getting me over 4ft hedges on my little 13hh pony on the hunting field too:rolleyes:
