Hi all, brief run down - bought a 4yr old couple of mths back after been back in the saddle 7mths after a 15 year break after losing my confidence after a nasty nasty riding accident.

So all going well but 2mths ago she took a cat leap over a cross pole, i landed unbananced her her back & she spooked & I ended up being ploughed into the arena fence @ full speed:rolleyes:
Now my confidence is way back up & I am very comfortable on her - current saddle causes me to pearch forward & not much in terms of knee blocks so I bit the bullet & had her measured for an Albion a couple wks back & it is currently being made - tried numerous saddles from saddle fitter & the albion felt amazing, imediately felt more secure in the saddle - just wondering from experience has anyone noticed a vast improvement on position when saddle changed ?

Welcome to the club - I have a four year old after a long break and an Albion on order as well. They are apparently fantastic. I feel quite insecure in my current saddle as well - mostly because it can move a little. I can't wait for my new one. :D

Have found that if she shys or has a " moment" am going to go tumbling off ( which I have a few times! ) Nearly had to remortgage the house to afford the Albion so hopefully the investment will pay off!:)

If you want to feel really secure get waxed buffalo skin leather and a pair of full seat breeches - that's as near as you're going to get to gluing yourself in! It does make the saddle a bit heavier though.

Yes, it's just as important that the saddle fits you as it does the horse - certain brands suit certain body shapes, it's not as clear cut as it first seems!

I had a jump saddle a while back that fitted my very hard to fit mare perfectly.... but it pushed me so far out of position I fell off her in walk, so it had to go...! :)

Agree totally, that is what I have found the hardest, getting something that fits both of us - did find when I sat in it it felt as if it pushed me into correct position & even my instructor said I looked like a different rider in it so just wish it was bloody ready - am not of the patient sort!
