Ok, fairly trivial I think, but I just want to get off of my chest whether I did the right thing or not!

I went to the yard and was umming and aahing over whether to put Bailey's rug on. After a bit of deliberation, I decided to take him up to the yard to rug him up. I got him out of the field fine, but ont he walk up from the field, he started blowing and snorting like an idiot. I gave him benefit of the doubt first time round (he is 2.5) but then told him to get on with it after the second stop.

We crossed the bridge and then made our way up to the main gate to walk back to the yard. I had to wrap the rope round his nose at this point as he was being an idiot.

I don't do this normally but long story short, I have a lump on my right wrist which impedes the strength I have in my wrist and hand. I had it operated on in March, and I am back at the hospital in 2 weeks for another op to be arranged. It is at the stage now where one big pull renders my grip pretty useless, so any extra help I can give myself is done.

Bailey crossed the second bridge (by the gate) but when I turned him round so I could close the gate, he kept spinning and looked like he was about to spring. I eventually got the gate closed and when I got him to walk on for the last stretch to the yard he was so wound up I thought he was going to ping. He has never done that to me (pinged!) but at that point I was very aware that I had nothing in my wrist to hold him, and there was no one else at the yard.

I stood and relaxed him for a moment, and then turned him back and opened the gate. He was being an absolute barsteward by this point, so I managed to close the gate and then put him in the school and pushed him around in there for a bit, before catching him when he had calmed down a bit.

When back in the field I did a lot of walking on and backing up until he listened properly. I then walked him back up from the field to the main gate to the bridge where we had the problem, just to make sure he would do it and not cause me a problem (people at the yard by this point). He did it all fine, and I then put him back (no rug

I'm sure I was right to make him do it again - especially as this is very out of character for him. There was no threat to go up in the air (he has never done that to me) but he was so tightly coiled I thought he was going to explode at one point. I think I just need reassurance that I did the right thing

OH will come up on Saturday and help me bring him up - a bit more strength to make up for what I am losing!

Yes, in my opinion you were right to go back and do it again.
Good luck with your next op.

I do the same thing with Bella when she is being an idiot with gates. She catches on pretty quick that if she does it properly first time then we get on with our walk rather than doing it again and again and ..... Well you get the idea
