Did I do the right thing?

Ok, so Lu and I hacked out today (beautiful day here). She's fab with traffic, no problemo. Got to the main road, there's a seperate cylce/walking path running parallel to the A road. On the ground at the start of the cycle path is a painted cyclist and some lines, WHICH SHE REFUSED TO WALK OVER She attempted to climb the bank at the side to avoid stepping on it. So, in the end, I got off and led her over it, still stepping to the side. Did it a couple more times until she agreed to walk on it, then got back on and headed home. It was quite embarrassing as there was traffic on the road and I was getting some mega funny looks while both mounted and on the ground. Has anyone else had the same problem with lines on the road? Did I do the right thing getting off? I couldn't get her to safely comply while on board, at the same time I didn't want her to think she could avoid it in future.

I should add, she's only 4.

I used to have terrible problems with white road markings , my lad came from Poland so dont know whether they dont have them there or whether he had never been hacked out before (very well schooled just no idea out). You were right to persevere but you probably haven't fixed it yet , keep going.

What ever is safest with least fuss is the best thing, specially with a 4yr that doesn’t know any better on a main road, so yes and you got the outcome you wanted.

Forgot to add, mine had a similar double take on one of the roads that I was hacking on the other day, they had done some re-tarmacing, so there I was trotting along and because a patch of the road had suddenly changed colour, we did a bit of a sliding stop and a quick snort and kinda jumped up in the air on all fours, nothing dangerous just a little was quite comical really, if it was on a lane he hadn’t been down before he wouldn’t of even battered an eye lid but because it was on one of his usual routes he noticed it, big daft twit. lol

Yeah, it sounds like you responded calmly and quietly, and got the result you wanted with minimal fuss, therefore the horse didn't get her knickers in too much of a twist!

Yes, she does that too lol new patches of tarmac get stepped around. There are two postcard-pretty cottages at the end of our quiet tarmac stretch, with lovely gardens and 'anti parking' stones - she doesn't like the big white stones. The horse-eating kind I suspect. A 10 tonne articulated lorry can pass without the slightlest problem, but those damn stones get thoroughly examined first!
