Or will I be forever classed as a wet blanket!?
Got asked to lunge a yearling filly - work, TB, getting her ready for the sales, which is 10 days.
All fine.
Then got asked to long line her after 20 or so mins lunging.
I have longlined a few times before, but never had lessons on it, and have only done my own horses, plus maybe 1 or 2 quiet ones. I am not the worlds greatest at such a task, first to admit getting into a 'controlled' pickle with 2 lines!!
I took up the two lines and started. About 3-4 mins in, I didn't feel comfy. The filly had done nothing wrong, but I felt wrong. I politely said to boss, that I was not comfortable in doing it, so she took over and all was fine. I don't want to sound like I am a cop out, but I felt if it didn't feel right, and the filly in question is so young, not to mention her potential price tag of £200k + (Yikes
) then I did do the right thing. What would have happened if it had gone wrong??!!
I just hope I haven't blown my chances of learning to do it right, if I refused to do it at all! I did say I would be happy to practice on the yard 'dobbin' - but whether or not I'll be allowed depends on the future!
Your thoughts on this please.
