Did I do this wrong?

Went to stables, with son and another owner with daughter, went to bring our 2 in, leaving 2 greys in field, all ok, headcollars on, no carrots!!! cos that may cause a riot at gate... just about near gate one grey mare barged into friends horse, for no reason, friends horse shied, into mine who jumped 4 foot off ground in fright and I stepped back put foot in hollow and ended up on bum! My chestnut trotted up to son who was on other side of gate as if to say get me out of here quick!! bit shook up but did not show it in front of 2 eleven year olds, lovely bruise on knee where grey kicked me . Could I have done anything different? This grey has notice on stable door saying "sensitive horse" we did give her wide berth but she came right for other horse. This is first time these 4 have been out together, 2nd grey never bothered.Thinking of asking YO if this grey could be put with the other field of mares, should I ? Or did I do something wrong?

I cant see that you did anything wrong there, maybe leave it for a couple of days and see if the grey does it again (obvs be on your guard though!) it could have just been excitment. If she does anything like it again then i would ask to move. Good luck i hope your knee is feeling better.

Take a spare lead rope that you can spin like a propeller - is great for keeping horses back without causing any angst
