just purchased a new saddle for my welsh D, was touching a four figured sum for the saddle. It a WH saddle from the saddle exchange for natives.
He has been so hard to find a saddle for being an x-wide and trying to find a 2nd hand one was like pulling teeth.
Not sure however if iv ended up paying over the odds??

Does it matter? If they are hard to find then the cost will be higher. You have a saddle that (hopefully) fits so try not to worry

If it fits then its worth its weight in gold :)

Absolutely. If its the right fit it could save you a fortune in vet examinations, physio's, behavioural experts, nutritional trial and errors....and not enoying your horse.
Don't feel bad, a good saddle is an investment. Just don't let anyone take your horse swimming in it. (like my daughter did....)

Any well made, new, english saddle is going to set you back £800+ with prices rising on leather quality and name badge! So no, a brand new saddle for around the 1K mark is not at all unusual.

I was expecting to pay around that for my xxw highland so I'd say you paid about the right amount. The Native Pony Company saddles are gorgeous and really good quality. I got lucky and found a second hand one that had been made for a highland and fits mine like a glove, I still paid £450 for it. As others have said, if it fits, it's worth its weight in gold.

If it fits the horse and you and you are comfortable riding in it then count your blessings and enjoy it!

If all are happy and comfortable it is worth its weight in gold.
