Did we all manage to get to the yard today?

I’m in Staffordshire and did mine at 6.30am. Main rd was ok but road to field very icy! Mine are still out 24/7 and seemed happy! Just started feeding hay this week but not that bothered! I have no choice but to get to yard even if I need to walk as it’s my own land and I’m there by myself. It’s a 4 min drive!
 
not to bad in Hampshire! a dusting of snow and not as cold as the previous two mornings! silly monkeys are refusing to stand in the shelter to eat their hay at the moment so I've had to put it on the frozen grass to make sure they have something to eat!
 
Got there ok but water is frozen. It was turned off and drained but think its frozen under ground. Any tips for avoiding burst pipes and also preventing frozen taps/ pipes?
Looking at forecast Friday might be the worst day.
 
Days like this make it worth the cost of paying for livery and knowing he's fine even if I don't go.
I walked very carefully up to the shop for milk and that's all I'm doing. -7 and layer of ice and graupel this morning. Was warned off the country lanes by a friend.

And thick snow. Roads are treacherous and no fun but you crawl and hope for the best! The one on full livery is grand and been out in the field all day which I'm very grateful for 🙌 the oldies are living out and doing fine with plenty of hay, I had to defrost their mash feeds with boiling water this morning though! pipes defrosted briefly last night so I was able to get all 3 water tubs filled up to the brim so we'll be ok until it thaws tomorrow, I doubt we will have running water at all today. Grateful we only seem to be getting 48 hours of this deep freeze.
 
No snow here just very icy. Passed a bit of a bump on the way to the yard, in the same spot as nearly every icy morning - there were two there saturday morning, one on the way out and one on the way back. It's an old railway bridge at the bottom of a fairly gentle slope with a sharp right hand bend immediately after it and a ditch at the side of the road. So many cars come down too fast, hit the brakes before the turn but carry straight on into the ditch. There haven't been any injuries in the bumps I've come across but it's only a matter of time, I'm sure. It's a well known blackspot in the ice but still far too many people come down there too fast.
 
We had about 45 mins of snow yesterday evening and it's still here today, everything frozen solid, ponies at home but still a bind defrosting hosepipe (why do I never think to bring it in the night before 🙄)
Just been out to top up waters.
Got up at 6am and drove up to the village in front of OH with straps just in case I had to tow him. He made it to the clear roads ok
 
I last went to the yard on Thursday. My next visits should have been Saturday and tomorrow. I couldn't get on Saturday. YO messaged to say not to bother tomorrow. 2" of snow and frozen solid on fields but ice on all roads. It's not worth the risk for me to drive 18 miles each way. My pony is out everyday and in at night. YO lives very close.
 
Our snow is hopefully on the way out now so got to the yard okay. Did have to divert as a massive tanker was stuck on the worst possible bit of road to be stuck on, top of a steep hill on a blind bend. That was where we were getting wheel spin over the weekend. He was unstuck by the time I was coming back, thankfully!

Only hairy moment was seeing a loose sheep on an icy hill. Thankfully a sensible sheep as it stayed in the verge and blinked at me as I slid past with extremely limited braking capacity 😂
 
minus 5 much of the morning, water is frozen at the yard so filled water containers up in the shower and took them warm water😂

roads are fine though, had the horsebox booked in for 2 new tyres and he still came! i did say i don’t mind if he wants to reschedule but he was happy to come as long as access was fine.

I'd never thought of this! Mine just got cold water from the outside tap but if they liked it, I could get mine warm.water too 🤣

I am soaking his sugarbeet tonight in the kitchen and used the hot water from the kettle though.
 
Got to the ponies driving very carefully.
I dont know what happened but one had demolished and was stuck in the fence so sorted her, fed them and had to go back home for the battery for the energiser.

Ponies are doing ok with ad lib hay (i prefer that in weather like this so if i can't get up i know they have food), Their water has barely frozen surprisingly.

Until 2 days ago Til was on mash feeds so lots of warm water being carted up.
 
Yes, we got up twice (O/H has to do all the driving as my ME means I'd be a serious health hazard 🙈 🤣) Kind of ironic that in my 30's I took 5 years away from horses and went into motorsport including lots of rally driving!!! Anyway, ponies all fine, the greedy blighters have just been moved into 20 acre winter field so some serious noshing going on🤣
 
-7° here tonight so not too bad. Horses havent gone out since Thurs and I really don't understand why. We got a bit of snow Thurs night which has stuck around. Yard is saying the track to bring the horses out is icy but it isnt...I have been up and down it several times with my horse in hoof boots no problems including ridden.

Yard tried to lecture me about ice and snow...I am seriously the last person someone should be lecturing about it. So horse and I have done the Canadian thing and ignored that we absolutely should not be going up tbe track and just trucked on. Had a lovely hack yesterday!
 
It hasn't got above zero here in North Wilts for several days. Horses are at home but the yard taps are frozen and their turnout areas (including arena) are also frozen solid. I've been making up their morning and evening feeds in the utility room with hot water, which they love - I keep telling them not to get used to it! We have the first real snow this morning, only about a cm so far but it's coming down pretty thickly. I have the vet coming shortly for a vacc - I bet she'll be considering her career choice this morning!
 
Road was a bit slippy in places this morning but it's not as cold as forecast and is set to get a bit milder I'm happy to say.
 
Mine live at the farm with me so that's not been an issue. Getting them to and from the field has been a bit harder. I usually bring them straight over the road, across the main yard to my little yard. However the yard has constant running water across it to a drain so it's lethal.
Luckily there is a second gate into the house so I've been taking them down the road on a wide verge and into the house enterance which is then old scalpings to my yard so that's been a life saver.
The road outside us is awful. I went food shopping first thing and once i was on the main roads it was all fine.
