I was always hoping too, our family joke whenever there were prezzies kicking about (even the teeny sit in your hand ones) was:
"What is it?"
"It's a PONY!" :p
So this year I bought myself one for my birthday! Go Me! :D

I got one as a birthday present! Wasn't quite what you meant though as I went and chose him but it was the best present ever!

When i was a kid and wrote my letters to Santa, 1st item was a pony, followed by a dog and then various other animals, toys etc were right at the bottom of the list. Unfortunately Santa ignored my requests, downside of having non-animal loving parents. :-(

But I did get the first of my current 2 horses on the 21st December, so I could count that as getting a horse for Xmas.

I was loaning my pony, and was given ownership for a Christmas present :)

His passport was wrapped up, and on the tag it said,
"To Nicole, From Tont with love.
You really are my owner now!!!" :p

Nope.

But whenever my mother made a shopping list I would sneakily add 'pony for Lisa' at the bottom! :D

Never got one though. Apparently they didn't sell any at Tesco. :D

Nope, but my goodness my parents tricked me one year (By accident) by giving me "Horse and Pony care" books and a hat...I was disappointed for a short while, but I found I was getting more lessons, so it was fine :)

no but i was in the hairdressers the other day (a once a yr treat!!) and could over hear a conversation at the next chair, this woman was telling her hairdresser that she'd bought her 12 yr old daughter a foal this christmas and was going to produce it in the driveway on xmas morning with a red ribbon around its neck!

i had to stifle a giggle. think she'd have preferred a pony. cant imagine what their garden's going to look like by boxing day. maybe they plan to keep it in the garage

 Let's hope they have land of their own or a yard booked; might just be in the driveway for the big reveal...

On a similar note, my three nieces are getting a horse related surprise for their present this year. Their parents and me and my OH have talked it over, along with my YO...nieces are each getting cards with the message: "Good for one hard hat and a year of pony rides!" Taking them shopping in January for their hats.

Hoping Ali won't mind being dubbed a pony, lol! They will be on the lead rein, but if they are very keen then we will see about proper lessons as opposed to one ride each per month:)

ETA: Just remembered I will also need to buy a child's sized saddle for them to ride in, as well as my new dressage saddle.

Yes, aged 6! It literally was what every little girl dreams of, went outside and tada, a pony in the field with a massive ribbon round its neck. Turned out to be a right cheeky little b*gger but the best pony I could ever have wished for, he was a cracking thing bless him.

No but I spent year hoping, I was always disappointed at Christmas whatever other presents I got, poor parents

I did get a pony eventually though when I was about 13 :D :D

The memory of that did make me help it happen for another kid though. I got up a 6 one Christmas morning to deliver a pony (with ribbons and bows :D ) to a friends little girl :D :D

Friend did it for her daughter. Daughter was riding a nice coloured mare at our yard as daughter having problems with her own one. Came up on Xmas day to find that original pony had been sold and mare was now hers. Stable and pony were completely decked out with tinsel etc and daughter was speechless and then joyful tears! How lovely to have a parent who would go to that much trouble for you!

I never got one for Christmas but we did the whole "Birthday Pony" thing for my friend's daughter this year:D We'd actually bought the pony 8 months earlier and it was living with me but as we'd bought it unbroken (Actually it was unhandled!) we decided to start it off before handing it over to the child - then we found out she was pregnant and thought we'd wait for the foal just in case of problems. SO this kid had been coming up most days to help me with "my" pony and had asked her mum if there was any possibility of me selling it to her when all the while it was intended for her:D On the actual day we decked the stable out with banners and put big bows on the pony and she was just stunned when she came up to the yard.

Not for Christmas but for my 22nd birthday. I genuinely had NO idea. I had the mare already on loan and had entered (with owners permission) my first BE event, on that day, so I already had my mind full of nerves! I had told the owner that I would put her name down on the form, she told me not to worry, just under the breeder, now it makes sense, but not then.

Up at the crack of sparrows, to find a trail of balloons tied to the water contains leading from the cottage to the stable. Still thought it was odd, some sort of good luck ritual by mother!?! lol Not until when I got to the stable door and saw HAPPY BIRTHDAY did I realise. I was in so much shock, I literally shook and wept for hours, could barely speak. I had a good day at the event, that alone was a dream to be affiliated. 9 years later Meg is still my number one, the best little horse I have had and could ever have.
I still have no idea how much mum paid for her, she will never say anything other than 'she is worth more to you than any amount of money'... which is so true.

My six year old wants Valegro for Christmas, think she may be a bit disappointed!
She does have a pony already, she just wants an upgrade!

Love it! :D:D

Christmas Crackers, what a wonderful, wonderful story. That bought a tear to my eye. What an utterly fabulous thing for your mum to sort out :)
