well ive ended up with 21 yo nearly 17h chestnut !!!!
and wouldn't be without him tbo,hes great and so loving we have a great bond already and Ive only had him 1 and a bit months,i cant believe that Ive ended up with a horse who couldn't be more different than what i wanted to start with

have any of you ended up with something totally different ???

I was looking for a 15hh-16hh about 8yrold. Had to be totally sane as my novicey sister would be riding plus needed to event but only to novice level.

I ended up buying a 16.2hh 5yr old Sports Horse, that has never evented (shes done a little dressage and SJing and a tiny bit of XC) and i wouldn't class her as the sanest horse!!
We have had our ups and downs (only had her bout 5months now) but the ups are more frequent than the downs at the min!!! I love her to pieces and know that i will have alot of fun with her once i suss her out!!

She was also the first and only horse i looked at!!

Yes, sort of!
I wanted a 15.1-16.2hh mare or gelding, 5-8 years old, needed to be willing but preferably not to have done too much in the past so I could bring it on, preferably an anglo arab or similar light built type which needed to be an allrounder.

I found my horse through a friend, a 15.3hh dutch gelding, light built and very responsive and willing to ride, lovely nature, and still fairly green despite being 7. I am very glad I have him as he is just what I wanted, he gets better by the day!

My hubby bought me an ex-racer as a first horse that was as spooky as hell, nappy and totally self oppinionated!! but after nearly three years we get along fine (apart from his canter lead - see post!!) sorry for advertising post, oooopppss!!!

I wanted a palomino mare and get a black gelding, so I don't think so, I am over the moon with him though and love him to bits!!

I didnt want a new horse, I was quite happy with the one I had!
Sadly he told me he wasnt happy doing what I wanted to do so we went to plan B

No!

I went shopping with a very specific list for a reason, and stuck to it. I knew exactly what I wanted and searched for 15 months. The end result....? Perfection! My dream horse!

Yep

wanted a 16.3-17.2hh chunky horse, that was sane. Wanted one dad would be able to regain confidence on. Wanted something I could still have fun on. Also wanted something with good stable manners etc so dad could learn to tack up etc

Pickle is all of those things and more utter perfection hehe

Wanted a 15h2" gelding & not a grey, didn't want older than about 9 years old & didn't want to spend more Than £?k.

Second one we went to see was advertised as 15h2" but was 16h2". He was a bright bay, very green, lovely nature & was considerably over budget. Thanks to some good negociating by my YO with the seller we got the price down to the money we had & so we had him. There was an almost instant bond & he's with us for the rest of his days now. Difficult to imagine life without him now.

After reading some of the lengthy searches some members have had for their ideal horse I feel so very lucky with how our search went.

Ditto!

Only I also wanted a small compact 16h at the max TBx (pref connie). Ended up with a 16.2/3 TbxWB. At least he's a dark coloured gelding!

Without a doubt!!

Was looking for a safe but fun, 17.2hh or over.
Something my daughter could also hop on and be looked after.
Preferably a warmblood....

(preferably but not essential.... Gelding, bay or chestnut)

Got Max....
18hh, bay gelding bavarian warmblood
Super safe, but fun and drop dead gorgeous
Couldn't be happier

Nope.
Wanted a straight forward 15hh-16hh horse who I could do BSJA with after I had got to know them, and to have fun with.

I got a 15.2 horse who I spent the last 2 years trying to get to grips with and gaining confidence on, have been to two sj shows with and two dressage.
But I wouldn't change what I had to learn to get to where we are as I feel I have come on so much as a rider because of her.

With Harry, no! I wanted a pure arab well schooled gelding min 15hh who was ready to go out and compete.
I got a 14.2 scraggly skinny sad little anglo, who certainly needed some work! He is my angel though, it was true love at first sight

Sorry couldnt resist an excuse for pics

With Dil, yes. She is everything I wanted and more. Welsh D unbroken but calm and well handelled with a calm and sweet temperament. No hang-ups. She fits the bill - plus she's well pretty

Just now, we wanted a pony team, all geldings under 15, or a pair of chestnut geldings 13.1-14HH and we got a mixure of both... A team of 5 chestnut geldings at 13.1HH!

When we got the boys we wanter a pair of ponies over 13HH, prefeably geldings and they were that too! Very lucky i'd say, very few pairs or teams come up for sale!

Gosh yes!!!
I wanted a bay gelding - between 15.2hh and 16hh - I categorically did not want a mare - and I don't like chestnuts... so what did I end up with? A 16.2hh chestnut mare!!! I swear god was laughing down on me the day I tried H!!! Like you though, I wouldn't go back - I'd never change her - she's thrown more challenges at me than you could shake a stick at but wow what a bond we've built up over the years and it's true what they say about mares - once you get them onside they will give you the world!

Daphnelia, he is absolutely beautiful now, you must have a good eye!

I wanted a 16.2hh+ grey gelding, capable of doing 1.15ms immediately and sane...

I got a 16.2hh bay mare who is as green as grass even tho she is 8

I wanted a 5yo irish gelding of between 15.3hh and 16.1hh, liked coloureds but only if a nice horse! Ended up with a rising 4yo 16hh irish coloured gelding, so was pretty much spot on, except younger than wanted, but not been a prob!
smile.gif

i know we should have a good idea about what we want but maybe haveing a wider scope is better sometimes as we could have missed so many other perfect horses before by being blinkerd !!

Well the chestnut 16hh bit was correct - wasn't fussed about mare or gelding but had been looking for something between 8 - 11 years old. Ended up with a 5 year old that has had a complete personality change since moving to our yard. Apparently our yard does this to horses - they just love it so much up there they are permanently excited
smile.gif
We're getting there and most days I love her to bits...somedays she gets called other things rather than her actual name though!

Absolutely - I wanted a mare by Sportsnight (stally I used to work with) that was quality enough to breed from!

She produced Hector, who is better than I ever dreamed!!

I also really, really, REALLY wanted a Shire x TB and I had a fantastic year with Topper, before he had to be PTS

Berry, well, when I was 11, I just wanted a horse. He's far more than 'just a horse' though - he rocks!!

I went to try a 14.2hh 10 year old bay cob gelding at the local rescue sanctury and ended up with a 13.2hh, 7 year old just broken chestnut Welsh b x Arab mare
laugh.gif

When I was looking for a second horse I brought my dream horse, breed, colour, height and age wise he was perfect. (exactly what I wanted the first time round)
