I was a Pony Club member in my teens and really enjoyed it. My daughter is a member now and she loves it too

I was a member in my teens. It was ok but not the be all and end all. I think a lot depends on which club you are in.

I was never in the PC, and at the time I was glad I didn't. Now the kids up the farm have been going I think I may have missed out there. Think would have been good education esp with my naughty mounts

I was in the Eridge and loved it. Only came out really because we outgrew the SJ'ing side of it...they were more into eventing in our branch and we wanted to jump bigger than 3'6.

I was in Moray and Nairn and loved it. Had so much fun and learnt so much. I last joined 2 years ago when I was 19/20 I still really enjoyed it as I had a youngster however they messed me around a bit with my B test.

loved it but if you mums not one of the people holding the events and your not in the clique dont expect to get put in the teams!
only one person was fair at my pc and that was marietta foxpitt. (williams mum) shes a lovely lady.

I was a member of pony club but never had a horse/pony so I couldn't join in that much. Often I would be lent a pony but it was normally something old and knackered so that didn't really help. I took all the exams/tests and went to the demos. I liked being a member in theory but the reality was I normally just ended up being the helping hand as I didn't get much opportunity to ride and join in and it was hard to befriend people when you can't reallu get involved.

I was a member for a couple of years, once I'd figured out how to hack there! I enjoyed it, got a lot from the rallies and instructors, and even managed to get on the dressage team once.
I've even started going to their shows again as they're very local to my yard, and a great way to get my horse used to going in a group.

My mum thought that it would be a good thing for me to do and so paid for me to join. But, I was incredibly shy as a child and didn't have a pony and so hated it.

I went to one rally (on foot). Stood there watching and some lovely lady let me sit on her horse (she had hacked over with her child). It made my day!!

And went to one Christmas party. Didn't know anyone there as I never went to rallies as I didn't have my own horse and so absolutely hated it.

I am sure that if I had had my own pony I would have enjoyed it far more.

I jopined for a year and never went back. The club was so snotty and actively ignored members who didn't have a pony/horse. I borrowed a friend's pony to do my D test and because I didn't have all the correct 'gear' I got a dressing down. I didn't tell my mum, who came with me, as she would have been as upset as I was. They certainly didn't cater for people who weren't rich and influencial. I hated it.

I agree, I had the same problems...no one really paid any attention to me and I did a lot of standing around holding people's ponies while they mounted. I just used to come home after and cry that I didn't have a pony

I was in the PC and it wasn't bad, I was looked down on quite a bit because I took a horse who wasn't mine, he was old but he was such a confidence giver and I certainly needed the confidence! I did find that a few of the members, some who were only slightly younger than me were very arrogant and snotty towards people (not just towards me) claiming their horses were better, and only certain people could ride them. Due to the fact the horse belonged to my trainer, and the transport did also I could only go to shows when it fitted in with her plans and had to give up when she became pregnant.

That's so sad - when I first joined I didn't have pony either, but I was really made welcome and the DC took me under her wing! She even managed to persuade my parents to buy me a horse in the end

I was with the Fitzwilliam for a few years, but moved to Belgium when I was 7 and joined the pony club there. It's only until the year you're 15 there, but it was way better - it was pretty much 50-50 boys and girls

I did PC and it was okay, didn't get as much out of it as some due to dodgy horses.
I have to say that in general it wasn't too snobby, I only ever had loan horses or scrounged rides most of which were quirky to say the least and no parental support. Most PC people were willing to help with the odd lift here or there or to lend me a horse for the exams.
The best comment was from the ex DC who was watching the B test (and was a bit snobby) say 'oh, she can ride when given a sane horse' ... this was after being told my nutty pony was not suitable to allow other candidates on for my B test !

I enjoyed it till I was about 13
I did not find it snobby but I found it very show jumping based, and as i was not keen to be jumping 3 foot and up or to be eventing opens so I did not enjoy it. At camp they put me in the bottom ride even though i was also on the County and National under 16 dressage squad. All the training was geared to jumping.

When I was a kid/teenager I rode horses for a family that lived near to me. The woman had 2 sons. We all went to pony club. They did prince phillip cup/mounted games - That was not really my thing so I mainly did rallys and getting pony club tests. It was OK, I wouldn't say I loved it.
