This is just a check really, as my horse is doing very well but I will be increasing his work load next season (competitive endurance) and I would like him to winter better this year in order to start next season firing on all cylinders.
He is a slightly poor doer - worse in the winter!
Currently he is on (once a day):
1/3 large scoop of barley
1/2 large scoop of Dobson and Horrell Pasture Mix
1/2 large scoop of speedibeet
and a handful of alpha a oil
Biotin (only just started as he was getting a little "footy" I think due to the very wet ground this summer. He is barefoot and has been for 3 years, great feet! no problems at all until very recently)
1 teaspoon of salt (sweats alot when ridden during out harder training sessions so put this in to replace the salts)
In winter I up the alpha a oil and add soya meal - this kept the condition on reasonably well last year. With a nice warm rug and as much hay as he could eat.
His work load is reasonably high at the monent - he would do about 40 -50km a week hacking but will increase next season.
In the winter his work load drops significantly to one or two short hacks a week.
I just want a little reasurance that i'm doing ok with this diet... possible improvements... There is alot of experience people out there
Thank you
