Hi all just a quick question on what an ideal weight for hunting (next season) on a 13.2 fjord pony. Will be fit and is very stocky. Previous owner was 16stone and he was ridden a few times a week but I know that I wouldn't personally want him to hunt with that all day.

I was thinking about 11.5 stone so say 12.5 with tack?

10 stone, 11 stone with tack? I'm probably biased because I'm 10 stone and would feel too big on a 13.2, but that's probably due to my height rather than my weight.

Over here Fjord horses are known as weight carriers for their size, and the common weight limit recommendation for an average Fjord horse that I've been able find is 75 kg, which according to some internet converter that I tried = 11.81047833135 stone. But a bigger than average Fjord horse or one that is well muscled and/or with more bone can carry more.

:)

If you take his pulse & respiration, go for your ride and then take it again when you get back and then every few minutes until it gets back to the starting rate you will see how fit he is and how well he is coping with whatever weight he is carrying.
