I have a mini that i left with my mum while i was away for a few weeks on strict instructions that if she is feeding her mare she gets a couple of nuts of balancer! I came back to a BULL CALF!!! I asked what she fed her and she maintained balancer (if thats what it does need to change brands!) what i found was she was feeding what she gave her mare (comp mix). She has a back like a table and a belly like a preganant mare, with a bullocks neck! im disgraced, mother said she felt sorry for her. I have her championship show (yes show horse) in 3weeks, will it shift in that time, being lunged every day for 20mins??? HELP....................save my sanity
Even my grey who came home looks disgusted!

totall bare paddock soaked hay and if you need to feed feed hi fi lite to get supplements in if you dont need to feed dont! do 15 mins in morning than 15 mins at night walking up hills!

I'd keep her in off the grass for a period of time with access to a small haynet with small holes if possible. Lunging helps - may need to up it to twice a day to shift it quickly!

Mmmm i was thinking the same, morning and night, get her event fit!! Im distraught you wouldnt recognise her in peak sason at shows, i cant do hill walking (cracked vertebrae), any slimming prducts for horses??

Get her off the grass, that is what is fattening. A completely bare coral, in the field with her friends will do it. Weigh her hay. It is easy throw a section of hay in without realising it's actually enough for a day for a tiny pony.

OMG!!! My friend and i in the office have been in hysterics at your post........ The wording is a perfect description, good luck with that one. On a serious note i really wish you the best in slimming her down, i cant believe she hasn't developed laminitis yet.

Get her off the grass and in a piggy paddock!!! Its awful isnt it when you see all your hard work just dissapear. Its hard keeping the weight off the minis they just balloon at the sight of grass. Mine get fat even on just this..

Lol both the big horses look embarrassed to be seen with her!My mini is v similar to your little one in looks, and he resembles a sideboard at the min too, despite have a grazing muzzle on at night and being in all day, am sure he has ballooned this week, maybe the nice weather is making the grass grow...I ride and lead with my mini,he and my cob waddle out together up the local hill,(I ride the cob not him lol) do you think yours would help you with that?

Good luck with the little tubster.Just proves not all minis are lamis, luckily, mine has never had it either touch wood.

Bare paddock during the day with soaked hay/good straw mixed, and in with the others during the day with a grazing muzzle. And twice daily exercise.

Just because she's little doesn't mean she won't be lonely if she's totally by herself all the time, so at least she can have some time with friends with a muzzle on.

She's not going to slim in time for the the show in 3weeks time, but if she's a bit fitter, she'll have reasonable abdominal muscles so won't look so pot-bellied. You can just tell them she's in 'show condition'

And if that's the grass she's normally on, I'm amazed she hasn't had laminitis yet

Thanks everyone, surprisingly thats usually where she's always grazed and usually looks like Mrs Stinkbombs champ mini& touchwood not an issue with laminitis! I've now succomb to lunging twice a day and trying to source a grazing muzzle, i will keep you's updated and thanks everyone
