Hi all,
My head is melted so I need to use of your brains please! I am so worried about my mare so am not so good at thinking this through logically. Help!
My mare was under one vets, then we moved (actually before treatment could commence, but info with liverpool so was ongoing). Liverpool were v v slow and her sarcoid progressed and I was struggling to keep it clean (open ozzey sarcoid on her head which was v painful for her) so had new vet out who started a course of injections and said he wouldn't use the cream on the one on her face.
Now more info through from liverpool suggesting diff strength cream (as the sarcoid has progressed so much). But current vet isn't recommending this treatment. Old vet is passing on this info as they started this with liverpool. Old vet is absolutly fab so I don't want to come across as being akward about not using the treatment they and liverpool are suggesting.
New vet has given some treatment, fingers crossed, but the has more sarcoids on her which require future treatment. Do I go with current (v experienced well respected vet) opinion who has actually seen my mare; or do I go with liverpool who have seen a couple of pics and who sell their cream (in this instance could they be considered 100% unbiased - not meaning this in a bad way, just that they are prob more inclined to recommend their own treatment?).
No idea what to do at all, I just want to do the very best for my mare, but I am not a vet and all I can do is take advice from my vet - but what on earth does one do when vets don't agree??
Arghhh! Please help!!

I'd go with whateve Liverpool say. He is a world respected expert on sarcoids.

I have heard of him saying that his cream isn't suitable to treat some horses, so I woulnd't worry about him "just trying to sell you his cream".

What is it exactly that your new vet has done?

Hi,
Thank you for your reply, I could cry I am so confused and frustrated that I don't know what to do for my mare!
New vet has given her cisplatin injections. From what I have read they seem a good treatment for the type and location of sarcoid that she has. His reasons for not using the cream on her head seem perfectly rational - that with the cream is tricky to control the depth it works to. As the sarcoid is just below her ear, behind her eye so that is a very real concern with the amount of nerves etc just below the skin in that area.
Just have no experience of this and am frightened by the speed the sarcoid has developed.

I would go with Liverpool Professor too for the same reasons. I had problems with a horse with multiple sarcoids and the Professors report was so helpful and genuine even though he by then knew I would not be utilising his creams/treatments as I would be returning horse to the dealer as missold and mis vetted. His report was so damning that I succeeded in getting money back from dealer rather than them risk me pursuing him and the vet through the courts. Hope this helps and really feel for you, it is horrid trying to decide on course of action whilst watching your beloved horse suffering - hugs

Also if the Prof at Liverpool didn't think the cream was right for the face/that particular area he would say so. My poor boy had one on his cheek which the Prof picked up as being the most dangerous one of all the several he had even though it looked the least significant and warned that treating it could cause nerve damage in face and eventually had potential to become cancerous so he undoubtedly know exactly what he is talking about even though just from pictures. So sorry for your awkward dilemna
