Please can some one explain the difference between bute and danilon to me? I know bute is a NSAI and that is *can* cause liver damage, and in theory danilon doesn't cause the liver damage, but can someone explain why/how?
Thanks :)

Danilon is just more paletable I think. When I asked the vet about liver damage for long term use I don't think it has been proved or disproved. Mine is on Danilon every day and has been for almost 2 years:(

Danilon is tastier and more expensive. There are no proven benefits of Danilon over Bute in either the short or long term.

As has more or less previously been said, Danilon is the proprietary name for enteric coated Bute, and is therefore in theory more palatable to horses. Because of this "coating" it is said to lessen the chances of gastric problems if being given on a long term basis (in chronic cases). This method is also used in some human medication like Aspirin.

Brilliant, thanks
