Been a while since I bought a horse and unsure what offers would be insultng and what would be fair! *I know it's always worth a try lol*

So for example...

For a 3k horse whats the lowest you could offer?!

For a 5k horse....

For a 3k- might offer £2750 ish? and be prepared to barter (that the right word?!) a bit.

For a 5k- maybe offer 4.5k? Wouldn't know tho.

My mare was up for 3k with nothing, or 3.5k with all bits and bobs, 2 crap saddles, etc
I got her for 3k with everything. We didn't want all the stuff, but owner was 3k in debt so wouldn't budge

bought my current horse for 5k, started at 6k, should have sold for a lot more as very good horse- at least 10k!
bought my old pony for 500! and sold for £3250!! haha
for a 3k, i would offer aroun £2500, but depends on the pony tbh, th people who bought my pony didnt even negotiate! and for a 5k pony maybe 4500k, maybe a bit more, but tbh it really does depend on the horse!

I think in the current climate you can afford to be cheeky, most people really do want rid, especially if it has been for sale for a while, so check the add, if its on a website, carefully at the bottom or top to see when the ad was placed. this isnt always available to see but it is on some.

To be honest i wouldnt worry too much about offending as the seller can always say no!! I would be happy to offer 2k for a 3k horse, 4k for a 5k etc, maybe less. You might just be suprised what you can get away with!

Mine was advertised at £1500 when he'd just turned 4 and done nothing, with cheap tack included. I thought this was fair and would have been happy to pay it, but the owner knocked £100 off cos "he was going somewhere nice" which covered the cost of the vetting lol.

Advertised at £1300, we paid it.

my first horse was advertised at £1300, he'd only been backed and ridden in walk, we paid it and the woman gave us £100 back to go towards his schooling.

The most recent one we bought was 4 and a half years ago - they wanted £3250 for him (4 yo not done much really), We wanted to buy him but as we thought the vetting showed he was underdeveloped and weak infront, we used this to help 'barter' as it were. Offered £2250 I think which was turned down (although think had we fought a bit longer we'd have got him for that). Ended up paying £2600 so did pretty well there seeing as he worked out to be great!

advertised at £2995 and bought for £2400 affiliated sj didnt I do well

Genie was up for £3,800, I offered £2,800, and eventually we met in the middle at £3,300.

Mazzie was up for £8,000, and I ended up paying £6,000.

TBH I would never offer less UNLESS the owner had indicated they would take offers which I always ask in the initial phone call. There's nothing more offensive IMO than someone coming to try your horse and THEN ask if you'd take offers, its almost like you're saying the horse isnt worth it - if you ask in the intitial phone call then there's no offence!

People put in "ono" or whatever if they are open to offers. Ive now started putting "no offers" after prices as Im fed up with people making dumb/offensive offers!
