I have bought a new bag of Dengie Hi Fi lite for my boy and it is completely different looking to the last lot he had??? The last lot was quite like chopped up fine straw type texture and fairly pale in colour, whereas this stuff is denser somehow and more dark and green in colour? Do you think they have just improved things as they do from time to time or should I be concerned?
My horse is on a diet and a good doer who only has a couple of handfuls of this per day to put a supplement in, so I would not want him having anything too rich for him as he would be susceptable to lami and a sod to ride! Any thoughts or help from anyone?

Are you comparing a newly opened bag with the remenents of the old bag? If a bag lasts you as long as mine used to with a good doer, then it may have dried out and gone paler with time.
But I have noticed in the past that each batch looks a bit different, and that occasionaly they improve the recipe. (also notice this with nuts!)
Personally, I wouldn't worry too much

Yes nikkiportia...you may have a point there...my bags usually last anything up to 8 months because he only has a couple of handfuls per day!!! So it may well have dried out a lot...either way...he seems very happy with the new batch! :-)

I ahve nbeen using it for years as both mine have had laminitis in the past.

It does change from batch to batch. The colour and moisture can be different. I have written and complained to them once or twice (gave them the batch number and a small samplein a small plastic bag) and they send me a voucher towards the next bag.

Interesting you should bring this up. I recently opened a new bag of Alfa-A and my NF pony yearling wouldn't touch it although he had been happily munching the contents of the previous bag. My other yearling never batted an eyelid but he obviously thinks it's poisoned!

I had this with a bag of alfa a oil, usually it is brownish but 1 bag was bright green. I emailed their helpline and they said it is natural for there to be colour variations depending on the time of year and how long it has been since the bag was packed. They said it doesn't affect the nurtrient content though

Is Alfa Oil meant to be brown then?! My bag looks just like the normal Alfa I used to feed the babies, green. It smells oily though. The babies don't like it much compared to the normal stuff though!
