If you have a horse that is difficult to clip and usually have to dope it to get it done - involving the vet. How much over the usual clipping price would you be prepared to pay for someone to clip your horse without dope?

I did one last year, with vet to dope and charged the usual £40, it should have been at least 50% more as it still wriggled constantly and took twice as long as it should to get the job done.
I would start with the standard price for the clip and add extra based on the time it takes.

If somethings dangerous (kicks, squishes you etc) I just won't do it without dope.
Not worth my while to get injured and lose out on the rest of the months work.

If you didn't want much off and I could just twitch it I'd charge the same as usual.
If it's a youngster and just needs a bit more time taking I'd alsojust charge the same.

But if it's a confirmed 'I don't like being clipped' horse, I wouldn't risk getting hurt, it would either have to be doped or I'd walk away and let someone else try their luck

:)

I don't charge any different as I am used to clipping *****, for want of a better word, but I would charge if any of my equipment got damaged due to the horses behaviour.

Personally I would charge per hour so the naughtier it was the more it would cost. At least £30 per hour it is a horrible job and you need to cover insurance and transport cost. If I felt in danger I wouldn't do it even if it meant stopping midway through. If you know your horse normaly needs sedating than thats a risk you would have to take. I cant afford to be off injured

I would still get the vet to sedate - I wouldn't want to see anyone injured by my horse.

(Although did have an instructor many years ago with a bad stutter following a total smashed jaw when a sedated horse came round half way through a clip and kicked seven bells out of her.)

ps. To answer the question, generally people would probably want to pay less than it costs to get the horse sedated and pay for clipping, or surely they wouldn't bother..

If i knew my horse was difficult to clip, I would definitely sedate. I couldnt live with myself if i got someone to clip him and they were hurt! If you dont want to pay for call out etc, can you not just use sedalin?
