I have only ever been a member of this forum and although I dont post that oftern, I am addicted!
So I decided to register with another popular forum, one of the posts on there was - "what do you do thats not BHS"
There were a few posts on there with one person saying she - "rides on the roads, bareback, without a hat" "walks under stallions bellies"
I posted saying that it was stupid, and whilist I know that its her life, she can do what she likes, riding on the road is a danger to other people!
Not one person agreed with me, in fact I got a load of abuse.
I dont think this would ever happen on this forum?

I am glad to be back

Thats terrible, sounds like they are all as bad as each other on that forum. Stick to H&H !! And you are right, it is dangerous and stupid to be doing what that girl was doing, i would have said the same. Stupid girl !

While I totally agree with you and I think going under any stallions belly (let alone any normal horse) is really quite stupid I would say that this forum most probably would lynch someone who was new to the forum and disagreed with the 'normal' way of thinking.

HHO is aimed towards competitive people or more advanced riders (IMO) so the main audience in the forum are either experienced rider or people with more traditional views that wish to gain more knowledge.

Other equally popular forums are aimed more at 'alternative' horse riders that probably take the opinion that their super bomb proofed natural horsemanship horse would never cave their skull on for tickling their belly or lose their footing on the road plummeting them into the tarmac...these things only happen to other people

I go on four forums and find I write slightly differently on each because of the people on there, how well I know them and the reactions I think I'd get from them.

Personally I think that would happen on HHO. Take the Carl Hester debate... someone actually said that it's ok to disagree if you've got a high number of posts under your belt but if you're new then you shouldn't come in here and disagree with long standing posters. Why shouldn't you? Just because you're new, you're still as entitled to an opinion as anyone else surely? When I read this I cringed as it kind of shows HHO up as most members are lovely but there are the few cliquey sorts that dare anyone to disagree with them! It's a shame. Everyone should be allowed an opinion, old or new.

Whereas another forum I go on is often policed too much and healthy debate is not allowed often enough, so I think it's difficult to achieve a happy medium.

There is a smaller forum that I go on that is virtually just a group of friends, debate and disagreement is allowed, but being a small forum it rarely gets out of hand and we all create our own harmony.

The forth forum I'm on has a more specific theme and is full of very knowledgable, helpful people and I have yet to see a heated debate or arguement.

Completely agree and it's a real pet hate of mine that on various forums (it's not just this one) a person's knowledge seems to be gauged by how often the post.

I've diagreed with various 'big' posters on this forum and been taken to piece's for it but I don't care and I will stick by my opinion on most things, it's an opinion and everyone is allowed their own.

I think what scares me is the 'diagree with one' and then the whole pack of hounds is after you, I've got various people on ignore becasue when they didn't agree with me (mainly cos I didn't agree with one of the big posting 'god' of HHO) they called me stupid, an idiot, ignorant etc. I can put my hand on my heart and say I might be sarcastic with some responses but I have never been openly hostile to anyone on this forum.

I've had sth. like that happen to me on another forum, too.

In one case, I was considering sending my horse to an expensive livery yard to be trained, and whilst that forum had loads of posts saying how some people just bought a lorry or spent God knows how much on on-line shopping, some people just took great offense in that - including one person I don't personally know but who was such a bully, and had personal problems at the time that she took out on me

. And yes, that person was one of the big posters on there... and it seems that they thought they owned the place!?!?!

Hardly ever post on there now, and am sticking to HHO.

Blooming heck - how do you find time to go on 4 forums?

I have enough trouble keeping up with this and if there is a run of troll posts I've got no hope!
I don't go on any other forums - I came here, saw it was good and stayed
