Hi i am currently struggling to make a difficult decision. I have a 3 year old cob and a 2 1/2 year old TB. I have had them both for two years now and love them to bits they are both so different yet equally as loveable. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances my other half has laid it on the table that we can only afford to keep one of them. I have also found out i am pregnant and am not going to have time for both for a little while. How do i make this decision i have been arguing it in my head for weeks now and not got any closer to making a decision.. Any fresh outlook and suggestions would be gratefully received :(

If you absolutely have to sell one and cant make the decision which, advertise them both and whichever sells, sells.

a toughie! Sell both of them and see how you feel after baby is born? However, knowing how much I needed my sanity i.e. a horse when I was pregnant and afterwards... Which one do you think would be better with a child? I only ask as my lad is fantastic with my little girl and we a lot of fun now, she can brush him, pick his feet out, lead him around and already has plans on taking him to pony club  which one do you think would fit better into the new dynamics of life?

I'd keep the one that is more forgiving regarding care so the one that needs less rugging, stabling (the cob I guess?) and one that won't react badly if the routine slips sometimes

What a horrible decision. I like the idea of advertising both and see which gets more interest. Maybe sell the one you will get more money for if you love them both the same?

You could consider loaning one or both out too?

And congratulations on your news xx

I'd say sell your cob, only because he's older so will need working soon, where as if your pregant at least you don't have to fell bad about not doing too much with the TB and maybe after your baby you could work then? Just a thought

I would go with the one who is likely to have the best outcome if sold. It's the decision I had to make recently and I sold my yongster over my older one as he was more likely to get a good forever home and seems to have landed on his hooves.

If there is no difference on that score hten I would pick which one is likely to need the least from you while you are pregnant and just after.

Very sad you are in this position. I know just how you are feeling.

Thank you everyone! :)

I think which ever one it is i will probably loan out first wether it ends up in me selling or not atleast it maybe a better way of having piece of mind that they have found the best home. The cob would probably be the better "Family" pony as the TB as good as she is considering being only 2 1/2 sha can be fairly exciteable/unpredictable.

Will definitely consider putting them both up for loan though and seeing which one has the offer of the most suitable home first. :)

So much to think about and heartbreaking decision to go ahead with.

Thanx again for the comments :)

I would get rid of OH, put them in a field or loan them, get maintenance out of OH to keep you in the manner you have become accustommed to which includes having your horses. They are both young and when you have had the babe and got back on your feet again then you can start on the horses again, find a new OH if only to help pay for the horses and smile
