Hello. i've been reading so much lately that we're all going to have a terrible winter and there are going to be horses abandoned everywhere.
I know a few of my friends have been trying to sell their horses and not had any calls at all. Luckily for the said horses, their owners can afford to keep them and are selling them for different reasons, but it is a worry for the equines that have owners tha can't afford them. All the charities seem full to bursting and today on FB i saw a link for a few racehorses free to good homes.
What can we do as horse lovers to help? My mare is lucky, we have enough haylage to last all winter, enough straw too, but there are plenty needing good homes.

It Is sad, very sad. I'm afraid a lot of people will say they're better off being put down and in many cases it is. But when there are nice healthy horses out there...so many people dump their horses as soon as the going gets tough, I've seen it happen on a couple of livery yards ive been too. Then that owner will go on to buy another nice horse to replace the horse that they've just dumped. My horses are for life, no matter what until the day I have to make that hard decision to put to sleep.

i too have seen these adverts.

personally i would have another one as i keep mine at home and like OP have plenty of essentials. And a good horse going free is hard to resist. i would collect a herd if i wasn't careful!!

its a great shame though, and also a worry about wrong horses in wrong hands as they are free, leading to injuries and possibly dumping all over again.

only thing to do is pass on the adverts to prevent PTS.
