Hi All,

I have a 6 year old TB who has FINALLY put on weight after being on good ole Dr Green, but the good grass is going to his head a little bit and his droppings are quite loose.

Anyone know of any good digestive supplements that also help with calming behaviour?

He is on ad-lib hay, alpha A and bailey's performance balancer. Ridden 5 times a week and currently out all day in over night (changing soon to out overnight if the rain stops!)

Thanks :)

Personally I have had great success with the Hack up calm, digest, detox supplement.

^^^ This. I have been using the Hack Up Supplement on my youngster for a few months now and the different is incredible. I had a week where I was really poorly and mum fed the horses but forgot to include her supplement - the different in her after just a few days off the supplement was amazing. Within 2 days back on it, and she was back to being amenable again.

Also - maybe worth looking at changing to a non alfalfa chaff - I found this was a real trigger for the same youngster. I now feed her Top Spec TopChop Just Grass in the winter, and either Top Spec TopChop Zero or Halleys Timothy Hay Chop in the summer :)

Thanks for the advice! I have heard good things about hack-up but to start with am having a shift around in his environment as I think that may be part of the issue - he is currently stabled and turned out with my other 24 year old horse who has developed separation anxiety from him. They are going to be separated for the better of both to fields that will suit them both more and have got some protexin quick fix for when they are separated then am going to monitor him and if he is still a bit stressy then look at hack-up.

I have also been mixing in some TopChop Zero and do prefer the idea of non alfalfa but again will review a few weeks after the change up as I don't want to upset his tummy anymore than it may be! Thanks for the advice and will definitely go for the recommendations should I need to later on :).

Another vote for Hack Up, and if you need a calmer to calm the horse as well as his tummy try stepfree from them too its amazing

Can't help with the calmer, but can highly recommend using Mycosorb and YeaSacc for loose droppings and maintaining a healthy gut. Both easily sourced off ebay :)
