My greyhounds have been on a raw diet for about 4 years now - no problems, they love it, they are the picture of health, they eat their food in about 20 seconds flat every day, I get their food from MVM so very happy with the consistent levels of quality.

Just recently however I've noticed that Amy greyhound has phases where she has to frenetically go out and eat grass - she will do it to the point where she is eventually sick after 2-3 days of grass eating. She then settles down to normal again, until the next phase which is usually 2-3 weeks later.

Today Flick greyhound is doing the same! Whilst they are in an 'eating grass' phase they are eating their food well, drinking normally, otherwise acting normally in every way, poo-ing normally etc - they just have lots of trapped wind so you can hear their stomach gurgling in the next room!

Any thoughts on how to stop this before I trot off to the vets again? :) My lurcher used to have this once a month (he was fed a complete kibble not raw) where he would refuse his food for 24 hours, then would be back to normal the next day - the vet gave us charcoal tablets but to be honest I never found they really made much difference.

Whippet does this quite often in spring more and I usually wonder if its because the grass is a bit sweeter than usual. Its much less frequent after worming. And he stops after he has a poo, so again I wonder if in the summer he's a little more constipated?

Normally I shout " WIILYOUSTOPEATINGGRASSANDHAVEAPOO!" ;) Not very effective, but it makes me feel better :)

Ha ha that is the sort of thing I shout as well :D :D Good point about worming, I shall do them ASAP, thanks :)

Mine are a whippet and a whippet x collie lurcher and they are currently obsessed with grass. Not all grass, just a certain bit of next doors grass that is poking through the fence. They otherwise look and seem well and I cannot for the life of me work oout what it is! I think they did this last year and stopped over the winter. I'm not too worried, but I am keeping an eye on it

piece of grass coming out the other end (had to be pulled with a poo bag.)
what`s that about?

Ours are grazing like cows at the moment. (Not fed raw). Sometimes you do have to deal with the grass dangle dance - not good, and we don't carry poo bags. Dock leaves work well.

Always get "clingons" with my lot right infront of the non doggy/animal family with hoards of little kids watching as I am extracting their dangling bits from their bottys!
