Dear George got me up every 2 hours all night last night.... this is not uncommon with him. He has a gurgling stomach (so trapped wind??) and is desperate to eat grass, but I don’t believe he ever vomits and he never has diarrhoea. It is hard to be definitive about the vomiting as I don’t stand outside for 1/2 an hour at 1am/3am/5am with him to check! I can never see vomit in the garden the next day however.

He did vomit on Tuesday morning, he’d had raw rabbit for breakfast which I find often doesn’t sit well with them. Yesterday he had raw tripe which I try and feed to settle them as it’s very bland

I’m wondering if he has mild pancreatitis? Anyone had this with their dog? Thing is he isn’t showing any of the other symptoms - he is eating very well, he definitely isn’t losing weight and he hadn’t got diarrhoea ever ?

Just looking for thoughts before a vet visit really.....
 
I've never had personal experience, but a friend has a dog with pancreatitis and it does sound similar. Do you feed any veg with your raw? I dont but I've found a few bits of carrot sometimes helps everything flow through.
 
No I don’t feed veg (I don’t eat it myself lol!) but that’s interesting, thanks ? I’ll go and ask on the raw feeding group too, they are also really helpful. I suppose a blood test would identify it, if it was pancreatitis?
 
My older bitch had recurrent gurgly tummy problems. She would be off her food for a few hours, refuse breakfast but eat evening meal. At her worst this was about once a week. We were back and forth to the vets. Eventually stool samples showed she had a deep seated infection of some sort. A long course of antibiotics sorted it for quite a while then it started again in a lesser form. She was given zantac which cleared it up. I just keep a probiotic in for her now ready for any slightly dodgy days. She used to get some raw feeding but daren't do it now as she has become so sensitive to change.
 
..every so often I give a probiotic to my two..enterogermina..they usually are both stable regarding good poos ,but now and again get that gurgle you describe.This seems to put things back on track fast.

My boy seems to need this when he’s been over zealous in sniffing / licking the grass after a female has passed( prob in season)..
Re small dogs The fat level in small dogs should be 16 percent or less,to reduce risks of pancreitis.We avoid extras,fatty food etc to the schnauzer as it seems to cause mucous and looser stool.

oh my poor GEORGE! Poor wee man. Mine had colitis with similar things going on. She ended up on a hydrolysed diet which sorted it out (unless she ate something out on a walk ?). How's his poo?
 
MY Whippet used to have a gurgling stomach and used to sick up bile (normally when hungry or he had eaten dairy products) - he was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and can't have any food above 2% fat in his diet now. He is blood tested every 6 months to check his levels.

I know that’s how I feel - poor little George! (and I’m totally knackered lol, I ended up leaving the back door open which meant I had 2 wet terriers joining me on the bed at 2-hourly intervals last night!)

His poo is totally normal, I did a comprehensive garden search this morning and there was no sign of any vomiting, all poo normal. He had a walk yesterday after work, pooed then, that was also normal.

I’m slightly at a loss what sets him off - he is a great junk food eater but I don’t let him have anything except wholemeal toast now in case it sets him off - he misses his crisps very much ?
 
awww. bless him. I do think jet's seem to have a more sensitive digestive system and given that they'll generally put anything in their mouths its very annoying! I think you'll probably end up getting blood tests. And 2 wet terriers?! ???

He has 2 meals a day now because he got so barky when I fed Colin, so they get fed at 10am and 5pm?

I’m thinking I might get some charcoal biscuits as a doubly positive thing? My impression is they are very healthy ??
 
Our Hector who is a very similar type to George gets like this although he is often sick as well. The way we know it is starting is he does this weird thing of running backwards when he is sore. There never seems to be anything to trigger an attack. Often it settles down by the next day but on occasions, he has to go to the vet and has buscopan and an anti-inflammatory injection which sorts things out.
 
My JRT has developed a very sensitive tummy as she’s got older. She used to have an episode about once a week (she’s a terrier so god knows what she eats half the time!). I’ve been feeding Yudigest for a month and she’s been perfect. Last week I ran out and within 2 days the gurgling was back so I think that’s pretty definitive.
 
I’d forgotten all about YuDigest - that’s a great idea, thanks, I’ll definitely investigate!

Last night George had a small amount of turkey mince at 9pm, he then slept all night solidly until Marty greyhound woke us at 6am. Absolute and total bliss - it makes me more determined to get this sorted ?

I had that feeling tonight that George’s need for diet was almost as much as mine ?

He has been very fit and healthy today but he is a bit miffed - I popped out twice this afternoon for a haircut and another appointment so I left him (and Colin) with Kong toys stuffed with food both times.

I decided that more than equalled his tea, so I didn’t feed him even more tea this evening - he is now Disgusted of Newent, and Don’t I Know He Is Being Starved!!!!

He seems to be back to his usual self for now (fingers crossed!) so I’ll keep him on a low fat diet, add the tree bark supplement and investigate YuDigest and see how we go ??
 
??? Yes he does look little......portly!!

You live in Newent? Ha! I'm just down the road in Thornbury (for a few more weeks anyway). I though I could hear two terriers barking the other day!!????
