can anyone recommend any supplements for the digestive system? I've heard of linseed oil, but no others. A friends horse has really runny poo (sorry bit grose) and we think it might be his digestion. I also want to know just for general health in my own horses. Thanks.

Depends on the cause. However if just upset due to stress/lush grass or change of feed etc... NAF Pink Powders. Mine is intollerant to sugar so gets really upset with lush grass, even with very restricted grazing - Aloe Vera Juice really helps. Worms can also be a cause, so worth checking that worming is up to date.

If you talk to your vet the first thing they say at this time of year for horses with the runs it tapeworm.

So worm with a good wormer that works specifically on tapeworm, some vets will give you codiene to stop the runs if they are really bad,.

Also Coligone works wonders on my chap for this as well.

I am in the process of doing all the above with my guy. We don't know why but he seems to get this every Autumn and we have previously blood tested for tapeworm and they've come back positive so this year I am skipping the first test and going straight for the wormer.

Don't really no why as others horses with him don't suffer and they all have individual paddocks but they do share forrage. Mind must just be more suseptible we think.

Good luck.

I use fibre-gest, it is like equillibra but much cheaper. It helps get the hind gut working more efficently and maintains good working gut. I have seen a difference in the horse poohs here, they are much firmer and it makes the most of their feed in the digestive system, they are much healthier on the whole I have to say.
And a good worming regime is a must.
