Digging an area on the cheap?

Who can i approach to dig a hole on the cheap?

We are having a yard done - a hard standing area - only needs to be a foot deep - so the depth isnt massive.

I know i could hire a digger but the costs around here seem quite expensive and im trying to keep costs down.

Who could i maybe rope in - to help me in the local area? who may dig the area for me?

ask around the local farms see if you can find a farmer with a 360 machine or backhoe loader (jcb) or just ring round plant hire companys remember you will also have soil/subsoil to get rid of!!! you may need a dumper or trailer to move it as well, unless you want a low bit next to it filled
