Due to the mad weather that we have been having, the yard i am at is frozen over and is too dangerous to walk my horses across it, my cob already lives out so i have decided that my youngster will live out untill it becomes safe again (better stuck out than in IMO). this is fine as he still gets fed twice/day, has a roll of haylage in the field and is rugged up.
However i am worried that his feathers are going to burn off in the snow and his mane will get rubbed by having his full neck TO on 24/7. i checked his mane this morning and there was definatley hair coming away
I want to show him in the summer (welsh D) so obv want to try and keep his feathers etc, what should i do to try and stop them being damaged? i have some pig oil that im going to put on (i need to try and get him back into the stable first to let his legs dry off), would this work on the mane too?
any other suggestions?
