Well Bandit drove an hour to come and see me on Saturday to see if she could help me out with my jumping dilema.

It turns out that i am totally cr*p!!!! I didn't realise but i was throwing my reins at her a stride out which was causing her to dive

And i was also too infront of the motion and unbalancing her poor thing!!!

So my horse isn't cr*p its me!!!

Anyway Bandit gave me loads of tips and exercises to do with her and she was jumping really well!! We only kept it small so i could focus on what i was doing rather than the fence but Bandit said Senza was clearing the jumps by about a foot!! We only had 2 down, one was my fault and she spooked at the other one LOL.

So there you go, Bandit gave me a fab lesson and i am sooooo grateful to her for that

I have also managed to get a lesson with my instructor in 2 weeks so i am not going to jump her again until then but just practice what i learnt on the flat.

Oh thats great news

and im sure your not crap, its just bad habits that you dont always know your doing until somone points them out!!! Is your lesson with LM, hope it goes well? x

Do you ever have lessons on a schoolmaster? Something to think about perhaps. Again this will allow you to be concentrating on your position and approach, rather than worrying particularly about the horse.

Really pleased you had a good lesson on Saturday - and can't imagine for one moment that you are crap. But it does go to show how invaluable it is to have someone on the ground.

Well done you.

If you can find someone to video you I find this invaluable - it really helps as sometimes people can tell you what is wrong but its not until you see it that you realise what you are doing.

That's great news Kelly

I knew Senza wasn't crap

It oftens just takes an independent observer to point out the obvious. Onwards and upwards again

Well done for admitting it, it's not easy, and lesser people would have carried on blaming horsey! But am sure you're not crap, its just finding out how much tiny things can effect them.... well done, onwards and upwards!

Hi Becky

Yeah lesson is with LM, she couldn't fit me in this weekend as her OH is taking her away for her birthday so we are doing it the weekend after

She really helped me last time so i was gutted when she stopped coming out to me but my friend wants lessons too so we're going to her in my friends box.

I have actually thought about having a lesson on a schoolmaster before but my old instructor always said you never learn nothing from them as if you make a mistake they tend to cover it up for you but it would be nice to be able to think about me and not worry about the horse.

On saturday though i found that coz i was thinking so much about what i was doing i was forgetting about then fence and her approach was so much calmer!!! It was quite amazing really to think that i had that much effect on her.

It's not about making mistakes - it's about improving your technique, which is why schoolmasters are invaluable. They allow you worry about yourself, improve your position and technique etc instead of worrying about them.

How can you improve your youngster without first improving yourself????

Hi lec

Bandit took a few photos for me and i could see straight away what i was doing
crazy.gif

One photo was from 2 strides out and all was fairly ok and then the other photo was from one stride out and i was already leaning forward and had thrown my reins at her

We didn't get a chance to video it but i might try and get my friend to video my lesson in 2 weeks.

Yep i agree totally with what you are saying and i do worry about the fence and my horse too much to think about myself so i will speak to my instructor and see what she says.

Hello!!!

Well, I would not say that Kelly is crap, purely that some bad habits have been aquired and also, not seeing what you are doing, means you cannot relate that to how it's affecting the horse....

Senza is firstly huge - and as such, quite ungainly and not yet established in all her gaits just yet, nothing bad, but there is alot to hold together and then to add a fence is all quite alot.

All we did in the session was work on what basic errors were affecting Senza and making her knock, and thankfully, she hardly knocked once we got things sorted.

Kelly isn't a crap rider, and nor is Senza a crap horse, but they are learning together which means someone on the ground is what she needs.

Thanks also to some tips from Buckinghorse, Kelly has been left with some really good foundation excercises to practice and also to keep her balance and position over fences!!

With that and her lessons, I know the pair will come on leaps and bounds this year and a smile will hopefully return!!!

Well done Kelly -

Bx

Thats great news.
Don't put yourself down though, we all develop bad habits over time and it sometimes takes a 'new eye' to spot whats happening.
So well done again (and to Bandit!), and keep up the good work!!

Oh Kelly dont be so hard on yourself. We all do things that we dont realise we are doing when we ride.

At least you have identified the problem and can now draw a line under it and work forwards.

Best of luck and keep us updated wont you?

Brilliant news - totally know how you feel - my horse apparently was incapable of cantering on the correct lead on the right rein, there were saddles checked, back people out, teeth checked....turned out it was me - all me! The good thing about not having a schoolmaster is that it does totally teach you to be a better rider because you have to be a better rider ......in order to get your horse to develop you have to develop with them - such a sense of achievement though when you make progress

Good luck & well done!
