Dilemma. Any advice?

I have two and the other stays in the field when I ride. I've done this with lots of horses. With a new horse, I'd leave it in a stable at first. The only trouble I've had was when I had three, and in spite of being right next to the other horse, a new addition jumped a gate when I took the herd leader away to ride him.

Cute pony OP :)

If you have been on a livery yard you will find it quiet on your own at first especially if your spent social time at the yard.
I think that now ( as I am older and wiser ) I could share my yard with a friend and I think that is what I would do if I did have girls on the yard everyday
ATM I would get a foster from WHW or someone similar it's short term and let's you feel the way to find what's the best way for you.
I don't think I would buy the high maintaince horse until you get the feel of how it all works for you.
My friend only has one horse she always has a elderly pony as a companion .
The piny has electric fenced pens in the fields in the summer they have all been in need when she gets them they have a lovely time with her until old age catches up with them .
However she never lets them get very attached so she puts the horse out without the pony , leaves the pony out without the horse . The horse goes away a lot and the pony gets left behind .
Having your own place is lovely but it is more work so don't over face yourself until you have the feel of it.
You also need to work out cover for you when life goes wrong friends or there will be freelance grooms around make contact and have a plan for emergencies.

Whatever you chose to do make sure all the residents have the same needs it is a nightmare to have a good doer and a poor doer sharing and a tiny with a big horse as their management is very different

Absolutely this ^^^

Our companion is an old TB but actually v. easy as a companion. The shetland - cute as she was - was a PITA:)

Update for those interested:

I bought a lovely little low maintenance 14.3 hh pony that rides like a dream ( hope those aren't famous last words lol) and can be companion to the big lad :)
