Ohhh I don't know what to do!!!!! Please somebody help!

Do I stay at current yard? It is ten/fifteen minutes away. It is totally DIY and there are only 4 of us there. It is the opposite direction to my new job which means ten mins there, do my stuff then ten mins back, then off to work. We have an outdoor school and I basically get it to myself. Only one floodlight that works. The hacking is FAB. £100 a month. All year turnout. Rocky is REALLY settled here and has friends. However, nobody really does much and I find I am becoming a bit un-motivated to go out and do stuff cos its only me doing it.

Or... do I move to yard which is DIY but it can be assisted. DIY is still £100. This yard is like 5 minutes up the road and could be on the way to work. It has an outdoor school with floodlights. THey are building an indoor school. Hacking is ok. The DIY bit you get an acre and a half and you do what you like with it (i would prob use half in summer and half in winter). I think I am nervous cos we have never lived on a big yard - what if people look at us and think we are rubbish at what we do, what if he hates it.... are these normal worries? One plus side is my same dentist, vet and farrier all go there. I would just need to find a new instructor (which is a shame as I love the one I have and she has taught me for 12 years) and a new saddler.

Ohh decisions decisions, should I just take a gamble and move???

(bottles of wine if you got this far!)

Why the new instructor? Would your lad be turned out on his own? Is he used to that?Apart from that I wouldn't worry.Iam on a big yard and TBH its the best I have been on and not a bit bitchy, yet anyway!

Taking away the 'what people might think' issue what does you gut tell you?

At the end of the day he is your horse to as you wish (as it were) don't worry whether other people think you are good enough or not - things like that normally come out of jealousy anyway!

I would go for it!! I've moved yards as I've lacked inspiration and never looked back.

The only thing is will be that your little routine may have to cope with some kind of compromise in one way or the other.

So unless you suffer with REALLY bad OCD and can't stand change to your routine, then go for it!

can see the ups and downs of each yard. yes it is very scary moving to a new yard but got to ultimately think where would your horse be happiest and then are you happy there too.

if all's good with your current yard and the only problem is the distance i'd stick there. is there anybody at your current yard who can help out in the mornings so you don't have to go before work? e.g. feed and turnout in return for help in the eve's?

I moved to a bigger yard two years ago, and have never looked back. It's not that BIG a yard, but twice the size of the old, smaller yard and more facilities and more friends!

The first yard on I was on, I wasted six months not enjoying my horse before I finally plucked up the courage to leave.

And the yard I'm on now, I've pretty much wasted the last six months because I can't enjoy my horse without being sl*gged off continually; so I found a sharer and took a back seat until I could find a yard I liked.

Thats two years I've owned my horse, and a year of it that I haven't made the most of because I've been unhappy on my yard. If there's a lesson to be learned from this, its that once you start pondering a move its best to make it sooner rather than later. Unfortunately I'm really shy and don't like meeting new people much which is why I've faffed about so much

IMO both yards sound pretty good. Ask yourself 2 questions; will your horse settle in a yard where horses will probably be coming and going all times of the day, and is it the sort of place you can see yourself more or less fitting in? If the answers yes I'd go for it. Good luck

Because it would be too far for my instructor to come as she already travels quite far to my current yard! this would add another 30 mins to her journey. He would be in his own paddock yes, but he is in his own paddock at the minute.

I was 99% sure I wanted to move there after I saw it this afternoon. Then I went down to see him and he is so settled that I worried I was moving him for selfish reasons.

I have put my name on the list, I think I am just going to take the chance and move.... if recent events have taught me anything it is that you have to make the most of the time you have with your horse... and this yard may allow us to do more things. e.g. they are planning a yard trip to the Norfolk coast in September. I was thinking of going next week - not so much fun on your own is it!? I guess my nerves are because I have had him at my current yard for the whole year and a half I have owned him...?

ive moved 3 times in the 11 months ive owned my horse (poor bugger!) i sooooooo never wish id moved from the first yard i was at

but always thought the grass was greener. I now look for somewhere with a nice atmosphere and nice happy people rather than shiny new stables and sparkling facilities. But on the other hand you will never know unless u try...cant you hold onto yr stable at current yard for a month whilst u "try" the new yard? means paying for an empty stable but if it all goes wrong u can run home

good luck whatever u decide

I would move if I were you

I only say that because I moved yards last month after 8 years plus at my old yard, and I was petrified (what if it wasnt as good? what if he didnt settle? what if the people were horrible?)

But it has turned out to have been a really good move, wish I had done it about a year ago

Facilities are great, YO is really nice and helpful, most people (not all

) have been really welcoming and friendly, so I am really glad I moved

i would move if i was you i am the only person at my yard and i know what you mean by not being motivated to do stuff as it is boring when you are on your own i bought a tb when there was people there then they all moved and i ended up only hacking him about once every 2 weeks but if i were at a yard where others were schooling and that i would have done a lot more with him but he has gone on loan now untill i get my act together and i just have my cob to hack about on

QR- not read the other replies but to me it sounds like you ready for a move. i moved in may and its the best decision i have ever made! its great being on a bigger yard and other people doing stuff will definitely motivate you...
just ask at new yard if you can have your own vet/farrier/instructor- can't see why not?! but if you do need to change then sure ppl on new yard will have suggestions

thank you all - I think I might just bite the bullet and go! I had not thought about holding my stable at old yard - I might ask them just not to give me back my 2 weeks that I paid up front until I have made a final decision???

THank you all for your help though - sounds like it isn't just me who has been in this position!
